THESSALY. Trikka. Circa 440-400 BC. Hemidrachm (Silver, 17 mm, 2.88 g, 6 h). Youthful hero, Thessalos, nude but for cloak and petasos hanging over his shoulder, striding right, holding a band in both his hands around the head of the forepart of a bull moving to right. Rev. TPI-K-AI-ΩΝ Forepart of bridled horse to right; all within very shallow incuse circle. Cf. BCD Thessaly II 767. HGC 4, 311. Toned. Very fine.

From an old Swiss collection, formed circa 1950s to 1970s.

THESSALY, Thessalian League. Late 2nd century BC. Stater (Silver, 20.5 mm, 5.95 g, 10 h), struck under the magistrates Simios and Pole... ΣΙΜΙΟΥ Head of Zeus to right, wearing oak wreath. Rev. ΘΕΣΣΑ / ΛΩΝ Athena Itonia striding to right, hurling spear with her right hand and extending shield in her left; Π-Ο/Λ-Ε across inner field. BCD Thessaly II 822 var (stars above spear on reverse). HGC 4, 208. Well-centered and struck. Relatively scarce in the series. Light porosity, otherwise, good very fine.

ΘΕΣΣΑ / ΛΩΝ Athena Itonia striding to right, hurling spear with her right hand and extending shield in her left; above spear, ΦΙΛ-ΩΝ and star; in exergue, ΙΠΠΟΛΟΧΟΣ. BCD Thessaly II 869.1. HGC 4, 208. Tiny scratch on cheek, deposit on reverse, otherwise, extremely fine.
