KINGS OF MACEDON. Antigonos II Gonatas, 277/6-239 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 31 mm, 16.94 g, 11 h), Amphipolis, c. 271-260/55. Horned head of Pan to left, wearing goatskin and around his neck and with lagobolon behind; all within the center of a Macedonian shield adorned with stars and crescents. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΑΝΤΙΓΟΝΟΥ Athena Alkidemos striding to left, hurling thunderbolt with her upraised right hand and holding shield with her left; in field to left, Macedonian helmet with transverse crest; in field to right, monogram of ΗΡ. KINGS OF MACEDON. Antigonos II Gonatas, 277/6-239 BC. (Bronze, 16 mm, 2.70 g, 3 h), possibly a Celtic imitation, copying an uncertain Macedonian mint. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion' skin headdress. Rev. B-A Youth on horseback right, extending arm; below horse, monogram of ANT. Cf. SNG Alpha Bank 990-1000. Well centered and quite attractive for these. Very fine.
