KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 30 mm, 17.02 g, 12 h), Knidos, c. 205-190. Head of youthful Herakles to right, wearing lion's skin headdress. Rev. AΛEΞANΔPOY Zeus seated left on low throne, holding eagle in right hand and scepter in left; to left, monogram of EY above prow to left. Mektipini 419. Price 2473. Of great rarity. Light deposits, otherwise, extremely fine.



Probably connected to the Cretan War of 205-200 BC and the military activities of Phlip V in Caria, the Alexanders of Knidos are among the great rarities of the entire series of coinage in the name of Alexander the Great.
