Winged, nimbate and cuirassed bust of the Archangel Michael, holding scepter with his right hand and globus with his left hand. Rev. †KE BO/HΘEI BACI/ΛEIΩ MAΓIC/CTPΩ S ΔOYKI/ TΩ TAPXANIΩΤΗ/-•- in seven lines. Hermitage M-6690. Leontiades, Siegel, 3d. The Tarchaneiotes, Tarchaniotes or Trachaneiotes, was a Byzantine aristocratic family from Adrianople in Thrace. The family survived the fall of Constantinople and members migrated to Italy and Russia, where they were attested (and very active) until the 17th century as Trakhaniot.

CKΕΠΕ ΜΟΙ Nimbate bust of the Archangel Michael, holding scepter with his right hand and globus with his left. Rev. ΘEOΦY/ΛAKTO ΠPK / ΚΡΙΤ, ΤΟΥ ΒΗΛ / ΤΟΥ ΑΙΓΑΙΟΥ / ΠΕΛΑΓ, S ΑΝ /ΑΓΡΑΦ, Ο ΡΩ/MC in seven lines within dotted border. Wassiliou - Seibt BBÖ II p. 32, n. 22 . Same boulloterion as Hirsch 267 (2010) 880 (realised 420€). Of excellent engraving skill; an elegant and charming seal of a high officer of the theme of the Aegean sea. Very fine.

BYZANTINE SEALS. Anonymous, Circa 11th century. Seal or Bulla (Lead, 17 mm, 4.44 g, 12 h). Nimbate and draped bust of St. Theodoros facing. Rev. MAPT/ ΦYΛAT/ TON CON/ OIKE(T) in four lines. A particularly small, but elegant seal, probably of a lower military rank officer. Very fine.
