Galerius, as Caesar, 293-305. Follis (Bronze, 28 mm, 9.91 g, 6 h), Thessalonica, 1st officina, 298-299. GAL VAL MAXIMIANVS NOB CAES Laureate head of Galerius to right. Rev. GENIO POPVLI ROMANI / TSA Genius standing left, holding patera in right hand and cornucopiae in left. RIC 20b. A well centered example with grey-green patina and light silvering. Light porosity, otherwise, good very fine.

Thessalonica saw a intense construction project during the rule of Galerius, when the Galerius complex was erected, containing the imperial palace, the triumphal arch and the mausoleum of Galerius (which nevertheless, was never used as his final resting place). Until today the famous Arch of Galerius on the modern Egnatia street serves as the most known meeting point for the youth (and not only) of Thessaloniki. The mint of the city where this coin was struck, was located in the Roman Agora, close to the Aristotelous square.
