CELTIC. Danube Region. Circa 1st Century BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 34 mm, 17.06 g, 5 h), imitating Thasos, class III. Celticized head of Dionysos to left, wearing ivy wreath. Rev. Herakles, stylized, standing left, holding club set on ground with his right hand, lion's skin draped over left arm. Lanz 971-4. Göbl OTA ppl. 46-7. Well-centered, lightly toned, and a charmingly attractive example. Good very fine.

CAMPANIA. Hyria. Circa 405-385 BC. Didrachm or nomos (Silver, 21 mm, 7.19 g, 5 h). Head of Athena to left, wearing crested Attic helmet decorated with olive-wreath and owl. Rev. YDINAI (retrograde) Man-faced bull to right. HN III, 539. Rutter 47 (HD26/HR41). Very fine.

CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 380-325 BC. Diobol (Silver, 13 mm, 1.18 g, 1 h). Head of Athena to left, wearing Attic helmet adorned with Skylla. Rev. [TAPANTINΩN] Herakles standing to right, fighting the Nemean lion; between his legs, Σ. HN III 914. Vlasto 1236-7. Well centered with a nice crest. very fine.

CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 280-228 BC. Litra (Silver, 10 mm, 0.52 g, 2 h). Scallop shell. Rev. Phalanthos, nude, holding amphora and distaff, riding dolphin left; two monograms in field, to right and below. HN III -. Vlasto 1600. Surfaces slightly eroded, otherwise, very fine.

CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 240-228 BC. Drachm (Silver, 18 mm, 3.22 g, 3 h), struck under the magistrate Neumenios. Helmeted head of Athena right, helmet decorated with Skylla throwing stone. Rev. ΝΕΥΜΗΝΙΟΣ - TAPAΣ Owl standing right, head facing; olive branch to right. HN III 1015. Vlasto 1058. Very fine.

LUCANIA. Metapontum. Circa 470-440 BC. Triobol (Silver, 14 mm, 1.34 g, 6 h). ΜΕΤ Ear of barley. Rev. Bull’s head incuse. HN III 1487. Noe 275. Toned. Nearly very fine.

Deposits and corrosion behind head, deposits on reverse, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.

Head of Demeter to left, wearing a barley wreath, a pendant earring and a simple necklace. Rev. ΜΕ - ΤΑ Ear of barley with leaf to left; to right, caduceus and ΛΥ. HN III 1556. Johnston, Class A, 1.7. Minor die-rust and some striking weakness, otherwise, good very fine.

LUCANIA. Metapontum. Circa 330-290 BC. Nomos (Silver, 19 mm, 7.91 g, 12 h). Head of Demeter to right, wearing triple pendant earring and a grain wreath. Rev. META Ear of barley with leaf to right; on the leaf, Nike standing left, holding large wreath with both hands. HN III 1591. Johnston C9.1/9.3 (obverse/reverse). Dies slightly worn, minor roughness, otherwise, about extremely fine.

LUCANIA. Metapontion. Circa 325-275 BC. Diobol (Silver, 12.5 mm, 1.20 g, 12 h). Head of Athena to right, wearing Corinthian helmet. Rev. META Grain ear with leaf to right; above leaf, cornucopiae. HN III -. Johnston F21. A nice example for the issue with a bold portrait. Very fine.

LUCANIA. Thourioi. Circa 443-400 BC. Nomos (Silver, 24 mm, 7.47 g, 11 h). Head of Athena to right, wearing helmet adorned with Skylla hurling a stone. Rev. ΘΟΥΡΙΩΝ Bull butting to right; in exergue, fish right. HN III 1799. SNG ANS 994 ff. Some cleaning marks on obverse edge, otherwise, very fine.

LUCANIA. Velia. Circa 340-334 BC. Nomos (Silver, 25 mm, 7.42 g, 3 h), from the "Θ" group. Head of Athena to left, wearing crested Attic helmet decorated with a griffin; behind neck, dotted P. Rev. YEΛHTΩN Lion walking to right; above, Φ. HN III 1284. SNG ANS 1292 (same dies). Williams 264 (O152/R203). Excellent centering on a broad flan. Good very fine.

LUCANIA. Velia. 4th-2nd century BC. (Bronze, 12 mm, 1.41 g, 4 h). Head of Athena to right, wearing crested Attic helmet decorated with vines and three olive leaves. Rev. YEΛ Owl standing left on olive-branch, head facing. HGC 1, -. HN III -. SNG ANS -. Unpublished. Green patina. Of good style but with considerable flatness in the strike, otherwise, very fine.

BRUTTIUM. Kroton. Circa 425-350 BC. Nomos (Silver, 21.5 mm, 7.67 g, 9 h). Eagle, with head turned to right, standing left on stag’s head. Rev. ϘPO Tripod, legs terminating in lion's feet; to left, ivy leaf. HN III 2146. SNG ANS 352 (same obverse die). Fine patina. Light roughness, otherwise, very fine.

BRUTTIUM. Kroton. Circa 425-350 BC. Nomos (Silver, 19.5 mm, 7.62 g, 3 h). Eagle standing left, about to devour left coiled serpent held in its talons. Rev. QPO Tripod, legs terminating in lion's feet; grain ear to right. HN Italy 2152; SNG ANS - (same obverse die as 348). Rare type with eagle grasping a serpent.. Minor porosity. Very fine.

ΛOKPΩN Head of Athena to left, wearing Corinthian helmet, with necklace of beads. Calciati 12. HN III 2341. Well-struck and a scarce variety with the kerykeion. Good very fine.

SICILY. Akragas. Circa 495-480/78 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 19 mm, 8.75 g, 8 h). ΑΚΡΑ Eagle standing left with folded wings. Rev. Crab; below, crestless Corinthian helmet to left; all within circular incuse. SNG ANS 946 (same dies). SNG Lewis 288 (same dies). Westermark 200 (O73/R135). Sharply struck reverse. Light scuff on obverse, otherwise, good very fine.

SICILY. Akragas. Circa 420-406 BC. Tetras (Bronze, 27 mm, 11.00 g, 8 h), c. 413-406. AKPA Eagle right, clutching dead hare in its talons. Rev. Crab; above, fig leaf; below, crayfish swimming to left; around, six pellets. CNS 11. Cf. HGC 2, 136 (scallop below crayfish). Westermark 684 (3.O13/3.R14). Green patina. Good fine.

SICILY. Akragas. Circa 420-406 BC. Hemilitron (Bronze, 25 mm, 13.34 g, 2 h), c. 413-406. IL...NON Eagle right, raising head and clutching fish(?) in its talons. Rev. Crab; above, fig leaf; below, crayfish swimming to left; around, six pellets. CNS 37. HGC 2, -. Westermark 697 (3.O23/3.R23). Dark brown surfaces. Nearly very fine.

SICILY. Eryx. Circa 330-260 BC. Onkion (Bronze, 16.5 mm, 4.13 g, 3 h). Female head to left, wearing pendant earring and hair tied in a loose bun at the back. Rev. Horse standing right. Campana 52. CNS 21. HGC 2, 328. Attractive and with a dark green patina. Very fine.

SICILY. Gela. Circa 425-420 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 26 mm, 17.12 g, 2 h). Nike driving quadriga walking to left; above, laurel wreath. Rev. ϹΕΛΑΣ Forepart of man-headed bull to right; below, heron standing left. BMC 45 (same dies ). Jenkins Group VI, 400 (O83/R169). SNG Copenhagen 267 (same dies). An attractive and well-centered example. Very fine.

SICILY. Gela. Circa 420-405 BC. Tetras (Bronze, 18 mm, 3.51 g, 9 h). Bull walking slowly to the right; above, olive branch with fruits; in exergue, three pellets. Rev. ΓΕΛΑΣ Horned head of youthful male river god (Gelas) to right, his hair laying flat. HGC 2, 380. Jenkins, Gela 527. Green patina. Nearly very fine.

SICILY. Himera. Circa 425-409 BC. Litra (Silver, 12 mm, 0.78 g, 7 h). Forepart of a human-headed creature to right, with beard, horn, wing and a lion’s paw; all within circle of dots. Rev. ΙΜ-ΕΡΑΙΟ-Ν Nude youth riding a prancing goat to left, holding whip in his right hand and goat’s horn in his left. HGC 2, 450. SNG ANS 174. Fine.

SICILY. Himera. Circa 415-409 BC. Hemilitron (Bronze, 15.5 mm, 2.76 g, 10 h). IM-E Head of nymph to left, with six pellets (value mark) to left. Rev. Value mark within wreath with ties below. HGC 2, 479. Kraay, Group b, 3. SNG ANS 186. Green patina. Very fine.

ΣYRAKOΣION Head of Arethusa to right, wearing necklace and pearl diadem, her hair tied up in a krobylos that is bound up and falls over the diadem. Boehringer 281 (O130/R194). BMFA 352 (same dies).
