C. Caecilius Metellus Caprarius, 125 BC. Denarius (Silver, 18 mm, 3.88 g, 12 h). ROMA Head of Roma to right, wearing winged helmet ornamented with griffin's head; denomination mark below chin. Rev. C · METELLVS Jupiter, holding reins in right hand and thunderbolt with left, driving biga of elephants to left; above, Victory flying right, holding wreath with which to crown Jupiter. Babelon (Caecilia) 14. Crawford 269/1. Sydenham 485. Well centered and attractively toned. Very fine.
