THRACE. Philippopolis. Marcus Aurelius, as Caesar, 139-161. Triassarion (Bronze, 26 mm, 10.73 g, 6 h), later 150s. M AYP OYHP KAICAP Bareheaded and draped bust of Marcus Aurelius to right. Rev. ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟΠΟΛΕΙΤΩΝ Apollo standing facing, head left, holding patera over altar in right hand and branch in left. Moushmov, Philippopolis -. RPC IV.1 Online temp. -. Varbanov 807. Same obverse die as Gorny & Mosch 134, 2004, 1862. Varbanov, Philippopolis, VII.9.4.2.1-3 (this obverse die) & VII.9.5.2.1 (this reverse die). Extremely rare - perhaps one of just two known, the other being the the Gorny & Mosch specimen with which it shares its obverse die. Of fine style and with a dark green patina. Surfaces a little rough, light cleaning marks, otherwise, good very fine.
