Laureate head of Apollo, three-quarters facing, turned slightly to the right, and with his cloak fastened beneath his chin. Rev. ΜΑΥΣΣΩΛΛΟ Zeus Labraundos standing right, holding labrys in his right hand and long reversed spear with his left. Babelon, Perses 397. BMC 1-2. Karl 18-19. SNG Copenhagen 590. SNG Kayhan 872. SNG von Aulock 2359. Traité II 91. With a dramatic head of Apollo, of a powerful, almost brutalist style, seemingly indicating how dangerous the god could be, if angered. Attractive dark toning. Weakly struck on the reverse, otherwise, extremely fine / very fine.
