LYCIA. Xanthos. Time of Maussollos of Caria, circa 360 BC. Drachm (Silver, 17 mm, 3.84 g). Lion's head with open jaws to right. Rev. Α - Ρ - [Ξ] (= Lycian Arñna) Star of eight rays, with a letter in three of the angles. Cf. Peus 407, 2012, 806 = Peus 378, 204, 275 (a diobol, 1.60 g, of these types) and Peus e1, 2015, 44 (an obol, 0.76 g, of these types, from the same dies as the diobol). Extremely rare, possibly unique. A most interesting and historic coin. Toned. About extremely fine.

Lion, pouncing to right, attacking bull, collapsing to left with head turned back to right; above, Θ to the right of the bull's horn; below bull, base of pellets between plain lines; in exergue, floral ornament. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square with granulated surfaces. Desneux 78 (same dies). SNG ANS 9. Tselekas, 203 (same dies). Lightly toned and struck in high relief on a particularly broad flan. Some die rust around the bull's tail, otherwise, extremely fine.

Extremely rare, especially with the mint name on the obverse; a splendid toned example, attractively centered and engraved in an outstanding, full-blown Classical style of the highest artistic value. With an elegant head of Apollo coupled with a kithara in high relief. Attractively toned. Extremely fine.

Splendid, very well-struck and with a head of Apollo of great elegance and charm. Extremely fine.
MACEDON. Phagres. Circa 450 BC. Trihemiobol (Silver, 11 mm, 1.10 g). Lion seated to right, his head turned back to left. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square of mill sail form. H. Bloesch, Die Löwen von Skione, SNR 38 (1957), p. 10 and pl. 1, 12 (possibly same dies). Extremely rare, possibly the fourth known example. With a powerful and ferocious lion. Extremely fine.
MACEDON. Skione. Circa 480-450 BC. Tetrobol (Silver, 12x9 mm, 2.17 g, 6 h). Bare head of Protesilaos to right. Rev. ϟ - ΚΙ Eye (from a galley prow); diagonally placed within an incuse square. Macedonian shield with a facing Gorgoneion at the center. Rev. B - A Crested Macedonian helmet; to lower left, double axe; to lower right, K. Price 2064 and, for the corresponding silver, 2114-2121. Clear, sharp and with a fine grey-green patina. Nearly extremely fine.

ΒΑΣΙ-ΛΕΩΣ ΠΕΡ-ΣΕΩΣ Eagle with spread wings standing right on thunderbolt; above eagle's head, monogram of NK; to right, monogram of AY; between legs, monogram of ΛΩ; all within oak wreath; below, plow to right. MACEDON. Koinon of Macedon. Period of Nero through Titus, circa 54-81. Assarion (Bronze, 16 mm, 3.78 g, 7 h). Nike advancing to left, holding a wreath in her extended right hand and a palm branch with her left; to left, round shield. Rev. ΜΑΚΕΔΟΝΩΝ Macedonian shield within oak wreath. AMNG 231, pl III, 9 = BMC 91 = RPC 1622. Extremely rare, apparently the second example known. Sharply struck and attractive, with glossy dark, brown-green surfaces. About extremely fine.
KINGS OF PAEONIA. Lykkeios, Circa 359-335 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 22.5 mm, 12.78 g, 6 h). Laureate head of Zeus to right. Rev. ΛΥΚΚ-ΕΙΟΥ Herakles, nude, holding his club in his upraised right hand, battling the Nemean lion to left; to right, behind Herakles, bow and quiver. Paeonian Hoard 63 (same dies). SNG ANS 1019 (same dies). A very sharp, toned and attractive example. Extremely fine.
ILLYRO-PAEONIAN REGION. Damastion (Dardania). Circa 330-280 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 12.82 g, 6 h). Laureate head of Apollo to right. Rev. ΔΑΜΑΣ - ΤΙΝΩΝ (retrograde N) Tripod lebes with lion’s feet on a small base. May - (style close to 92-93). Boldly struck in high relief, lightly toned and with an obverse of slightly barbaric style, seemingly modeled on the tetrobols of Philip II. Flan fault on the reverse, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
THESSALY. Trikka. Third quarter of the 5th century BC. Hemiobol (Silver, 9 mm, 0.42 g, 3 h). Steer hoof. Rev. ΤΡΙ - Κ Horse's head to left; all within an incuse square. BCD -. Apparently unpublished, but see Liampi 50 for a stylistically related piece with a horse protome, not just a head, on the reverse. Extremely rare. An excellent, well-preserved, toned and attractive coin. Nearly extremely fine.
