LUCANIA. Metapontum. Circa 300-250 BC. Chalkous (Bronze, 15 mm, 3.01 g, 12 h). Ivy-wreathed head of Dionysos to left. Rev. META Ear of barley with leaf to right; above leaf, cross-torch. HN III 1683. Johnston, Bronze, 47. Two-toned contrasting brown patina; well centered and struck. Very fine.

From the stock of an old Swiss dealer assembled mainly in the 1960s-1970s, accompanied by its original Bank Leu ticket of the early 1960s.

LUCANIA. Thourioi. Circa 443-400 BC. Stater (Silver, 19 mm, 7.57 g, 12 h). Head of Athena to right, wearing an Attic helmet ornamented with an olive branch. Rev. [Θ]ΟΥΡΙΩΝ Bull butting to right; in exergue, fish to right. HN III 1775. SNG ANS 900-14. Attractively toned, nicely centered and of good style. Light porosity and old scrapes under tone, otherwise, very fine.

LUCANIA. Thourioi. Circa 443-400 BC. Nomos or Didrachm (Silver, 21 mm, 7.69 g, 3 h). Head of Athena to right, her helmet adorned with an olive wreath: B above visor. Rev. ΘΟΥΡΙΩΝ Bull butting left; in exergue, fish to left. Gulbenkian 85 (same obverse die). HN III 1758. Attractive toning with soft blue and golden hues; well centered and nicely struck from a lovely obverse die. Minor surface porosity, otherwise, very fine.
