ACHAIA, Achaian League. Megalopolis. Circa 160-146 BC. Tetrachalkon (Bronze, 21 mm, 4.53 g, 12 h), struck under the magistrates, Pantisthenes and Agis. AΓAIOΣ Zeus, nude, standing left, holding Nike in right hand and long sceptre in left. Rev. AXAIΩN MEΓAΛOΠOΛITΩN /AΓI /ΠANTI Achaia seated left, holding wreath in right and long sceptre in left. BCD Peloponnesos -. Warren - (cf. 417-442). Not only is this undoubtedly the best known tetrachalcon of Megalopolis, it is also one of the best known of all Achaian League tetrachalca. Rough, sandy-green patina. Good very fine.

From the stock of an old Swiss dealer assembled mainly in the 1960s-1970s.
