THESSALY. Pharsalos. Late 5th-mid 4th century BC. Hemidrachm (Silver, 16.5 mm, 2.81 g, 7 h). Head of Athena to left, wearing earring, pearl necklace and a crested Attic helmet adorned with a long tendril, and with raised cheek pieces; behind neck, Α. Rev. Φ-Α-Ρ-ΣΑ (retrograde) Horse’s head to right. BCD Thessaly II 658 corr (same dies). Lavva 160 a corr., O74/R92. Toned. Very fine.



Lavva notes reverse die R93 for this issue, but a close inspection of the plate reveals it to be R92.

THESSALY. Pharsalos. Early 4th Century BC. Dichalkon (Bronze, 12 mm, 1.25 g, 10 h). Head of Athena to right, wearing crested Attic helmet with ear flaps raised, decorated by Skylla to right. Rev. Φ-A-PΣ Helmeted Thessalian cavalryman in chlamys and short chiton riding horse prancing to right, brandishing lagobolon above his head. Cf. BCD II 666.1. Cf. Laava 210-24 (uncertain dies). Brown patina. Very fine.
