KINGS OF THRACE. Lysimachos, 305-281 BC. Drachm (Silver, 18.5 mm, 4.10 g, 12 h), Ephesos, circa 294-287. Diademed head of the deified Alexander the Great to right, with horn of Ammon over his ear. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΛΥΣΙΜΑΧΟΥ Athena seated to left on throne, leaning her left elbow on her shield and holding Nike, crowning the king’s name, in her right; behind, transverse spear with point below left; in inner left field, kithara; on throne, Α. Thompson 174. Some uncleaned deposits, otherwise, very fine.

From the stock of an old Swiss dealer assembled mainly in the 1960s-1970s.

Diademed head of the deified Alexander the Great to right, with horn of Ammon over his ear. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΛΥΣΙΜΑΧΟΥ Athena seated to left on throne, holding Nike, crowning the king's name, in her right hand, and leaning her left elbow on her shield; behind her, transverse spear; to left, kerykeion with handle to right; to outer right, monogram. Thompson 193. An attractive coin with light toning around the devices. Very fine.

Diademed head of the deified Alexander the Great to right, with horn of Ammon over his ear. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΛΥΣΙΜΑΧΟΥ Athena seated to left on throne, holding Nike, crowning the king's name, in her right hand, and leaning her left elbow on her shield; behind her, transverse spear; in the inner and outer left fields, monograms; at side of throne, club; in exergue, grain stalk. Marinescu -. Perfectly centered with a clear and strong strike, and lightly toned. Possibly unpublished. Good very fine.
