Trajan, 98-117. Sestertius (Orichalcum, 32 mm, 29.28 g, 6 h), Rome, 109/110. IMP CAES NERVAE TRAIANO AVG GER DAC P M TR P COS V P P Laureate bust of Trajan to right, with drapery on his left shoulder. Rev. S P Q R OPTIMO PRINCIPI / SC Salus seated on throne to left, holding cornucopia with her left hand and holding patera with her right, from which she feeds a serpent coiling up from an altar on her left. BMC 807. Cohen 485. RIC 515. Woytek 335b. A very attractive coin, with a mottled green and brown patina, virtually as found. Extremely fine.

From the collection of Dr. W. M. Stoecklin, Winterthur, Switzerland, acquired in December 1956.

The surfaces of this coin are quite reminiscent of aes sestertii that are known to have come from the Sarti Collection of 1906.
