CELTIC, Southern Gaul. Volcae-Tectosages. Circa 121-52 BC. Drachm (Silver, 15 mm, 2.89 g, 4 h), "à la tête cubiste". Male head to left, of "cubist" style; before, two dolphins. Rev. Cross with an ornament in each quarter, including an axe on the lower left. Savès 12. Toned and with a dramatically impressive head on the obverse. About extremely fine.

CELTIC, Southern Gaul. Tolostates. Circa 52 BC. Drachm (Silver, 15 mm, 2.57 g, 7 h), "drachme à la tête négroïde". Stylized male head to left. Rev. Stylized cross ('rose seen from below'). DLT 2986. Savès 75. Boldly struck and nicely toned. Some scratches and marks under the toning, otherwise, about extremely fine.

CELTIC, Central Europe. Boii. 3rd/2nd Century BC. 1/8 Stater (Gold, 8 mm, 1.04 g, 2 h). Head of Athena to right, wearing crested Corinthian helmet. Rev. Meaningless legend Athena Alkis striding to left, with shield and spear; below left, N. Dembski 496. Kostial 33 and Paulsen pl. 6, 115 (same dies). Very rare. Clearly struck and attractive. About extremely fine.

LUCANIA. Velia. Circa 300-280 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 21 mm, 7.61 g, 1 h). Head of Athena to left, wearing crested Attic helmet adorned with a griffin; above vizor, Δ. Rev. ΥEΛHTΩN Lion walking to right; above, pentagram between Φ - Ι. HN III 1306. SNG Oxford 1330 (same dies). Williams 426 (O211/R300). Beautifully toned, very well-struck and perfectly centered. Extremely fine.

BRUTTIUM. Rhegion. Circa 415/0-387 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 22 mm, 17.35 g, 2 h). Lion’s mask facing. Rev. PHΓINON Laureate head of Apollo to right, with olive sprig behind. Herzfelder 86-89 variant. HN III 2496. A particularly attractive example, beautifully struck and lightly toned. Good extremely fine.

SICILY. Ameselon. Circa 357-340 BC. Hemilitron (Bronze, 16 mm, 4.16 g, 4 h). Horse galloping left. Rev. Eagle flying to left, with spread wings, holding serpent in its talons. Calciati III pg. 336, 6. Very rare. With an attractive, dark, glossy green patina. Very fine.

SICILY. Gela. Circa 490/85-480/75 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 18 mm, 8.73 g, 12 h). Bearded horseman, nude, riding right, brandishing spear in his upraised right hand. Rev. CΕ-Λ-Α Forepart of man-headed bull to right. Jenkins 7. SNG ANS 4. SNG Lloyd 956. A coin of the finest style. Reverse very slightly off-center, and some very minor marks, otherwise, extremely fine.

SICILY. Himera. Circa 530-483/2 BC. Drachm (Silver, 22 mm, 5.70 g). Rooster standing to left. Rev. Mill sail pattern within a square, border of rays, all within an incuse square. Kraay 83 (O62/R52). Attractive and sharply struck in high relief. Some traces of corrosion and die rust, otherwise, extremely fine.

SICILY. Leontini. Circa 450 - 440 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 27 mm, 16.77 g, 9 h). Laureate head of Apollo to right. Rev. ΛΕΟ-ΝΤ-Ι-ΝΟ-Ν Head of a lion with open jaws to right; around, four barley grains. Boehringer, Münzgeschichte 41. Cf. SNG ANS 224. A very attractive piece, well-struck and with a dark patina. Extremely fine.

THRACO-MACEDONIAN REGION. Siris. Circa 500-490 BC. Trihemiobol or 1/8 Stater (Silver, 9 mm, 0.97 g). Nude satyr kneeling right between two pellets. Rev. Diagonally divided incuse square. SNG ANS 971-973. Svoronos pl. VIII, 13-17. Toned, boldly struck and in high relief: an attractive piece. Some roughness, otherwise, about extremely fine.

MACEDON. Akanthos. Circa 480-470 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 28.5 mm, 17.43 g). Lion to right, attacking bull, collapsing to left with head raised; above, Θ; below, in exergue, floral ornament. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square with granulated surfaces. Desneux 63 var. (D61/R- [57?]). SNG ANS 10. Lightly toned, beautifully centered and well struck. Extremely fine.

THESSALY. Larissa. Circa 479-465 BC. Obol (Silver, 10 mm, 0.97 g, 9 h). Head of the nymph Larissa to right, her hair bound with a ribbon and tied at the back. Rev. ΛA Jason's sandal to left, all within incuse square. BCD 139 (same dies). Hermann group 1c, pl. I, 4. Rare. Very well-struck on a full flan. Usual slightly porous surfaces, otherwise, good very fine.

THESSALY. Skotussa. Second half of the 5th century BC. Drachm (Silver, 19 mm, 5.84 g, 5 h). Forepart of a horse to left. Rev. ΣΚ - Ο Germinating grain; all within incuse square. BCD II (Triton XV), 729 (same dies). BMFA 928 (same dies). Lightly toned. Uncertain banker's mark on the reverse, otherwise, very fine.

THESSALY. Trikka. Circa 440-400 BC. Hemiobol (Silver, 9 mm, 0.41 g, 11 h). Youthful male head to right, bare. Rev. ΤΡ - ΙΚ Forepart of horse to right; all within shallow incuse square. BCD II (= Triton XV), 780.1 var. Very rare. Attractive and toned. Slightly rough surfaces, otherwise, good very fine.

ILLYRIA. Apollonia. mid 1st century BC. (Silver, 14 mm, 1.32 g, 10 h), Half-Victoriatus, Aineas. ΑΙ / ΝΕ Burning bitumen ('the nymphaeum of Apollonia ablaze'). Rev. ΑΠΟΛΛΩ / ΝΙΑΤΑΝ Lagobolon. BMC 44. HGC 3, p. 7, 7. Pozzi (Boutin) 2916. Maier. SNG Copenhagen. Very rare. Rough surfaces and two flan cracks, otherwise, very fine.

KORKYRA. Korkyra. Circa 510-480 BC. Stater (Silver, 21 mm, 11.07 g), circa 500. Cow standing left, her head turned back to right to lick calf sucking to right. Rev. Two rectangular stellate incuses, one with a central linear rectangle and the other with a central linear lozenge. BMC 10. Rosen 169. SNG Lockett 1662. Lightly toned, bold and attractive. Nearly extremely fine.
