Extremely fine.

Didrachm (Silver, 20 mm, 7.27 g, 5 h). nuvkrinum alafaternum (in Oscan script) Head of Karneios to left, with ram's horn in his hair; behind head, dolphin swimming downwards. Rev. Dioscouros standing facing, his head turned to left, holding the bridle of a horse prancing to left with his right hand and a thyrsos with his left. HN III 608. Sambon 1008. SNG ANS 560 (same dies). SNG Paris 1102 (same dies). Rare, nicely toned and with an impressive pedigree. Both sides very slightly off center, otherwise, extremely fine.

ΤΑΡΑϞ Phalanthos, nude, riding dolphin to right, his left arm outstretched to right and with his hand open, and holding behind him, in his left hand, an octopus; cable border. Rev. METAΠ Ear of barley with a leaf on the right; to right, above the leaf, ivy-leaf. HN III 1546. Noe 519. With a particularly elegant and noble head of Demeter of splendid late classical style. Corrosion on the reverse, otherwise, good very fine.

Beautifully toned, very sharply struck and well-centered. Traces of overstriking, otherwise, extremely fine.

Reverse slightly off struck, otherwise, about extremely fine.

SICILY. Gela. Circa 490/85-480/75 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 18 mm, 8.73 g, 12 h). Bearded horseman, nude, riding right, brandishing spear in his upraised right hand. Rev. [E]PBHΣΣ[OΣ] Bearded head of the river-god Herbessos to right, wearing taenia. Cf. Campana 1. Rare. Nicely toned and of excellent style but struck on an irregular flan. Very slightly double-struck, otherwise, extremely fine.
SICILY. Himera. Circa 530-483/2 BC. Drachm (Silver, 22 mm, 5.70 g). Rooster standing to left. Rev. Mill sail pattern within a square, border of rays, all within an incuse square. Kraay 83 (O62/R52). Attractive and sharply struck in high relief. Some traces of corrosion and die rust, otherwise, extremely fine.
SICILY. Katane. Circa 420 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 24 mm, 16.98 g), with a reverse die signed by the “Maestro della foglia”, but almost entirely off the flan. Quadriga galloping to the right; above, Nike flying right to crown the horses. Rev. ΚΑΤΑΝΑΙΟΝ Laureate head of Apollo to right, his hair short; behind head, leaf. Gulbenkian 185 (same dies). ISLANDS OFF THRACE, Thasos. Circa 435-411 BC. Stater (Silver, 22 mm, 8.99 g). Ithyphallic satyr advancing to right, carrying vaguely protesting nymph; to right, possible traces of the letter I. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square. Le Rider, Thasiennes 6. Same dies as Lanz 125, 2005, 179 and Nomos 3, 2011, 42. Well centered, attractively toned, and of refined classical style. Good very fine.
ISLANDS OFF THRACE, Thasos. Circa 380 BC. Drachm (Gold, 13 mm, 2 h). Bearded head of Dionysos to right, wearing wreath of ivy leaves with berries at his forehead. Rev. ΘΑΣΙΟΝ Herakles, wearing lion's skin headdress and short, hunting chiton, kneeling right, shooting his bow; to right, Κ; all in linear frame within an incuse square. West pl. 4, 30 var. (same obverse die). Very rare. An attractive example, nicely centered. Usual die break at the upper edge of the reverse, otherwise, extremely fine.

Bold and very attractively toned. With a somewhat ‘cup-shaped’ flan with a very slight bend, otherwise, good extremely fine.

SNG ANS 158 (these dies). Lustrous and very attractive. Some minor digs on both sides, otherwise, extremely fine.

A few minor marks and with some scratches on the reverse, otherwise, virtually as struck.

Well-centered and struck on a broad flan. Extremely fine.

BAΣIΛEΩΣ ΔHMHTPIOY Nike standing left, holding wreath and stylis; at Nike's feet to left and right, monogram. Newell 71 (but struck from different dies). Very rare. Very sharply struck from fresh dies. Obverse slightly off center and with some minor marks and scuffs, otherwise, extremely fine.

BAΣIΛΕΩΣ - ΦIΛIΠΠOY Harpa; above, Ρ monogram all within oak wreath with ties at the left. Mamroth 25dh SNG Copenhagen 1263. A very attractive example, struck on an oval flan and with a dark green patina. Extremely fine.
MACEDON (ROMAN PROTECTORATE), Republican period. Fourth Meris. Circa 167-149 BC. (Bronze, 22 mm, 9.51 g, 9 h), Heraclea in Pelagonia. Laureate head of Zeus to right. Rev. ΔIA–ΩИ Hera seated to left, her feet on a footstool, holding a phiale in her right hand and a long scepter in her left; below throne, Δ. BCD Thessaly II 64 (same dies). Demetriadi 2, (O1/R2), but as Dion in Macedonia. Rogers -. Very rare. Attractive black and green patina. Good very fine.

ΛΑΜΙΕ - ΩΝ Amphora with tall handles; above, ivy leaf; to right, prochous with handle to right. Georgiou 1, 8. Jameson 1082. SNG Copenhagen 77. Traité IV, 456, pl. CCLXXXVII, 19. A very attractive toned example, with a very well centered obverse. Reverse very slightly double struck, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
THESSALY. Larissa. Circa 479-465 BC. Obol (Silver, 10 mm, 0.97 g, 9 h). Head of the nymph Larissa to right, her hair bound with a ribbon and tied at the back. Rev. ΛA Jason's sandal to left, all within incuse square. BCD 139 (same dies). Hermann group 1c, pl. I, 4. Rare. Very well-struck on a full flan. Usual slightly porous surfaces, otherwise, good very fine.
THESSALY. Larissa. Circa 420-400 BC. Drachm (Silver, 20 mm, 6.04 g, 3 h). Head of the nymph Larissa to right, wearing pendant earring and with her hair in a sakkos. Rev. ΛΑΡΙΣΑ / Ι - Α Bridled horse prancing to right, with loose rein. BCD 1131 (this coin). Hermann pl. IV, 10 (same dies). Lorber 2008, pl. 43, 65. Traité IV 695, pl. CCXCVIII, 5 (same dies). A lovely coin, nicely toned, in good silver and on a full flan; very possibly the finest example of this type known. Extremely fine.

ΛΑΡΙΣ / ΑΙΩΝ Horse to right, preparing to roll over. Herrmann pl. V, 5 var. Lorber, 2008 34 var. A beautifully toned and most attractive example, very well struck and centered. One of the very finest known examples of this issue. Virtually as struck.
THESSALY. Pelinna. Circa 425-350 BC. Trihemiobol (Silver, 15 mm, 1.30 g, 4 h). Rider galloping to left, holding two spears in his right hand and with his petasos hanging from a cord behind his back. Rev. ΠΕ - ΛΙ - Ν Warrior charging to left, holding spear in his raised right hand and round shield in his left. BCD II, 514. SNG Copenhagen 185. Well-struck and clear. Some slight porosity, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
THESSALY. Skotussa. Second half of the 5th century BC. Drachm (Silver, 19 mm, 5.84 g, 5 h). Forepart of a horse to left. Rev. ΣΚ - Ο Germinating grain; all within incuse square. BCD II (Triton XV), 729 (same dies). BMFA 928 (same dies). Lightly toned. Uncertain banker's mark on the reverse, otherwise, very fine.
THESSALY. Trikka. Circa 440-400 BC. Hemiobol (Silver, 9 mm, 0.41 g, 11 h). Youthful male head to right, bare. Rev. ΤΡ - ΙΚ Forepart of horse to right; all within shallow incuse square. BCD II (= Triton XV), 780.1 var. Very rare. Attractive and toned. Slightly rough surfaces, otherwise, good very fine.

ILLYRIA. Dyrrhachion. Circa 340-280 BC. Stater (Silver, 21 mm, 10.87 g, 7 h). Cow standing to right, turning her head back to left to lick calf suckling to left. Rev. Δ-Y-P (the rho retrograde) Double stellate pattern within double linear square border; on the left, club upwards; all within linear circle. BMC 1. BMFA 939. SNG Copenhagen 421. Well-struck, toned and clear. Die break on the obverse, otherwise, good very fine.
ILLYRIA. Dyrrhachion. Circa 200-37 BC. Drachm (Silver, 18 mm, 3.40 g, 10 h). MNA-ΣHN Cow standing right, her head turned back to left to lick at her calf, standing left and suckling below. Rev. ΔYP AΛE -ΞIΩ - NOΣ Double stellate pattern within a double linear square. Picard & Gjongecaj, RN 157, 2000, p. 233 and pl. XV, 113-114. In this condition, quite rare. Well centered and sharp, struck on very good metal with a most attractive old toning. Some old marks under the toning, otherwise, extremely fine.
EPEIROS, Federal coinage (Epirote Republic). Circa 234/3-168 BC. Drachm (Silver, 22 mm, 5.10 g, 12 h), Dodona. Head of Zeus of Dodona to right, wearing wreath of oak leaves; behind head, monogram of ΑΙ. Rev. ΑΠΕΙ - ΡΩΤΑΝ Eagle, with closed wings, standing right on thunderbolt; around, oak wreath with ties below. BMC 14 (same dies). Franke 99 (V48/R63, same dies). Rare. An absolutely splendid, toned, very well-struck example. Extremely fine.
EPEIROS, Federal coinage (Epirote Republic). Circa 234/3-168 BC. Dichalkon (Bronze, 19 mm, 5.43 g, 12 h). Draped bust of Artemis to right, with bow and quiver over her shoulder; to left and right, elaborate monograms. Rev. ΑΠΕΙ / ΡΩΤΑΝ Spear head to right; laurel wreath with ties below. Franke 638 (V397/R495, same dies). Sharply struck and with an attractive, dark brown patina. Centering hole on the obverse, otherwise, extremely fine.
KORKYRA. Korkyra. Circa 510-480 BC. Stater (Silver, 21 mm, 11.07 g), circa 500. Cow standing left, her head turned back to right to lick calf sucking to right. Rev. Two rectangular stellate incuses, one with a central linear rectangle and the other with a central linear lozenge. BMC 10. Rosen 169. SNG Lockett 1662. Lightly toned, bold and attractive. Nearly extremely fine.
AKARNANIA. Leukas. Circa 465-450 BC. Stater (Silver, 19 mm, 8.60 g, 3 h). Λ Pegasos flying to right, with curved wings and wearing bridle. Rev. Head of Athena to left, her hair tied in a queue falling behind her neck, wearing crestless Corinthian helmet and necklace of pearls. BCD Akarnania 177. Calciati 15 (same dies). Very attractively toned, sharply struck and of unusually fine quality, rare thus. Obverse struck slightly off center, otherwise, extremely fine.
BOEOTIA. Thebes. Circa 480-460 BC. Stater (Silver, 16 mm, 11.86 g). Boeotian shield, with a rim divided into eight segments. Rev. Incuse square with an anticlockwise mill-sail pattern; at the center, archaic theta with cruciform center. BCD Boiotia 350 (this coin). Pozzi 1407 = Pozzi (Boutin) 3238. SNG Berry 592. SNG Delepierre 1344. A lovely piece with a fine patina, rare thus. Extremely fine.
EUBOIA. Chalkis. Circa 180-146 BC. Octobol (Silver, 25 mm, 5.48 g, 11 h). Head of the nymph Chalkis to right, her hair in a roll and wearing a triple-pendant earring. Rev. [ΧΑΛΚΙ] / ΜΕΝΕΔΗ Eagle standing right with open wings; fighting a serpent, grasped in his talons, that coils around his left leg and rises up toward his chest. BCD 238 (same obverse die). Picard 1a (this coin cited). Locker Lampson 207 (this coin). Very rare. Very attractively toned. Struck on a slightly short flan with minor traces of corrosion, otherwise, extremely fine.
