ISLAMIC, Time of the Rashidun. Pseudo-Byzantine types. Circa AH 37-55 / AD 658-675. Fals (Bronze, 28.5 mm, 5.32 g, 6 h), imitating a 'Cyprus follis', uncertain mint in Syria (or Cyprus). Three crowned Byzantine style imperial figures, standing facing, each holding globus cruciger in right hand. Rev. A/N/N/O - X/Ч/II / KYΠP Large M with plain cross above; below, Γ. Album 3501. SICA I, 505. Walker, Arab-Byzantine -. Scarce early variety; struck in a very broad flan with attractive brown surfaces. Good very fine.

ISLAMIC, Umayyad Caliphate. Uncertain period (pre-reform), AH 41-77 / AD 661-697. Fals (Bronze, 18 mm, 3.70 g, 7 h), Arab-Byzantine type, imitating Constans II, Dimashq (Damascus). Byzantine-style emperor standing facing, holding long cross in right hand and globus cruciger in left; to left, standard above T or rose; Λ/Є/O to right. Rev. Large M; Kufic legends to left, right, and in exergue; monogram above, barred and inverted crescent below. Album 102. SICA I -. Superb dark brown patina with orange-earthen highlights. Perfectly centered and exceptional strike. Extremely fine.
