John II Comnenus, 1118-1143. Hyperpyron (Gold, 31.5 mm, 4.32 g, 6 h), first series, Constantinople, 1118-1122. IC – XC Christ Pantocrator, bearded, nimbate and with his right hand raised in benediction, holding Gospels in left, seated facing on throne. Rev. +Ιω ΔЄCΠΟΤΗ - ΘV (ΜΗΡ) Half-length facing figures of the emperor, on the left, wearing stemma, divitsion and loros, and, on the right, the Virgin, nimbate, wearing pallium and maphorion, holding long patriarchal cross between them. DOC 1a. SB 1938. A very clear example. Very fine.
