Solidus (Gold, 19 mm, 4.52 g, 6 h), Constantinople, circa 868-870. +IhS XIS REX REGNANTIЧM ✱ Christ, nimbate, seated facing, wearing chiton, raising his right hand in benediction and holding book of gospels with his left. Rev. bASILIOS ET COҺSTAҺT' AЧGG b' Crowned facing busts of Basil, on the left, with short beard and wearing a loros, and Constantine, on the right, beardless and wearing a chlamys; holding between them in their right hands, a long patriarchal cross. DOC 2c. Füeg 3.D.2. SB 1704. A wonderful example, very sharply struck in high relief. Minor scuffs, otherwise, good very fine.

Minor bang on the obverse, otherwise, extremely fine.

Rev. + IS - XS / ЬAS-ILЄ / ЬAS-ILЄ in three lines divided by cross set on three steps. DOC B.1-64. SB 1823. Dark green patina. Good very fine.
