Justinian I, 527-565. Half Follis (Copper, 30 mm, 11.41 g, 6 h), Cyzicus, regnal year 14 = 540/1. D N IVSTINI-ANVS P P AVC Helmeted and cuirassed bust of Justinian I facing, holding globus cruciger in his right hand and shield over his left arm. Rev. A/N/N/O - X-II/II Large K; above, cross; below, Y/Z. DOC 183. MIBE 121. SB 208. Struck on a broad flan; green patina. Very fine.



Either for efficiency or simply a case of simple artistic licence, the die engravers at Cyzicus used the denomination mark of the half follis (the K) to begin the mint mark.
