The Empire of Thessalonica. Theodore Komnenos-Doukas, 1225/7-1230. Aspron Trachy (Billon, 31 mm, 3.78 g, 5 h), Thessalonica, circa 1227?. IC-XC Christ nimbate seated facing on backless throne, wearing tunic and colobium, raising right hand in benediction and holding book of Gospels in left; ΔΣ ✶ sigla flanking the throne. Rev. ΘEOΔΩPOC ΔEΠ-OTIC O AΓIOC ΔIMIT On the left, Theodore Komnenos-Doukas, crowned, wearing imperial robes and holding scepter in his right hand and with his left, anexikakia; on the right, St. Demetrius, who is holding a sheathed sword pointed downwards, crowns Theodore. DOC 5b. SB 2162. Very rare and in exceptional condition for the issue. Good very fine.

Rev. MANOYHΛ ΔECΠ -X/M Manuel and the Archangel Michael standing facing, holding between them a labarum. DOC 4a. SB 2178. Extremely detailed and well-engraved for issue; very rare thus. Obverse dies overlapped, otherwise, very fine.

Χ|ΟΑΓ - Μ Nimbate and winged Archangel Michael standing facing, wearing military dress and resting his sword on his right shoulder. Rev. [Χ|Μ|ΔΕ] - ΟΑΓ|ΓΕ|ωP|Γ Michael standing facing, wearing divitision and loros and holding long cross-tipped scepter in his right hand, and St. George, nimbate, and dressed in military attire, standing facing, resting his left hand on his shield set on the ground to right, holding, jointly, a long labarum between them. DOC V 26 = DOC IV 2 = Grierson 1299. SB 2248. Extremely rare. Clear and with good details. Some striking flatness and marks, otherwise, very fine.
