Solidus (Gold, 19.5 mm, 4.29 g, 6 h), Constantinople, circa 868-870. +IhS XRS REX REGNANTIЧM ✱ Christ, nimbate, seated facing, wearing chiton, raising his right hand in benediction and holding book of gospels with his left. Rev. bASILIOS ET COҺSTAҺT' AЧGG‘ b’ Crowned facing busts of Basil, on the left, with short beard and wearing a loros, and Constantine, on the right, beardless and wearing a chlamys; holding between them in their right hands, a long patriarchal cross. DOC 2c. Füeg 3.A.2. SB 1704. A wonderful example, very sharply struck in high relief. Minor scuffs, otherwise, good very fine.
