Divus Julius Caesar, † 44 BC. Denarius (Silver, 21 mm, 3.65 g, 9 h), struck under the moneyer Q. Voconius Vitulus, Rome, 40 BC. Laureate head of Julius Caesar to right. Rev. C. VOCONIVS / S C /VITVLVS.Q. / DESIGN Calf standing to left. Babelon (Julia) 121, (Voconia) 1. Crawford 526/4. CRI 331. Sydenham 1133. Banker's marks on both sides and scuff on the edge, otherwise, about very fine.

The posthumous portraits of Julius Caesar vary greatly in their quality, even within a single issue. This is a dramatically emotional head and was certainly engraved by a master portraitist, undoubtedly a Greek.
