AVT KAIC ΠO ΛIC ΓNA ΓAΛΛHNOC Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust of Gallienus to right. Rev. ΘEΣΣAΛONIKH MHT KOΛ B NE / AK - TIA Apollo, wearing chiton, advancing to right, playing the kithara. Touratsoglou 39 (V7/R20). Varbanov 4781. Very rare. Very fine.



The inscription on the reverse is a reference to the Actian Games, held in Thessalonica under Gallienus, probably prior to 260.

ΚΟΙΝΟN ΘECCΑΛΩN Athena standing to right, holding shield and preparing to hurl spear; in field to left, denomination Δ (= 4). BCD Thessaly I 1425 var (obverse legend). BCD Thessaly II 991.4 var (obverse legend). Same obverse die as CNG 421, 2018, 448. Bold and attractive. Very fine.
