MESOPOTAMIA. Seleukeia on the Tigris. Circa 115 BC. Chalkous (Bronze, 17 mm, 2.06 g, 12 h). Turreted bust of Tyche right. Rev. ΣΕΛΕΥΚΕΩΝ/ ΤΩΝ ΠΡΟΣ ΤΩΙ/ ΤΙΓΡΕΙ God and Goddess, standing facing each other and sacrificing over an altar between them. Le Rider, Suse 322. MacDowell, Seleucia 132. Sellwood 92.2. Clear and with fully legible inscriptions. Uncleaned and with considerable encrustations as found, otherwise, good fine.



One of the autonomous issues from Seleukeia, seldom seen on the market but often found in museum collections (there are at least 16 in Paris and some 200 in Ann Arbor!).
