NORTHWESTERN ASIA MINOR. Uncertain city. Late 6th to mid 5th century BC. Tetartemorion (Silver, 6.5 mm, 0.15 g), an imitation of Kyzikos. Three crescents in a trefoil arrangement with a pellet at the center and with three pellets in each crescent. Rev. Head of lion, with open jaws, to right; all within a slightly irregular incuse square. SNG Kayhan I -. SNG Keckman -. Klein -. Cf. Naumann 44, 2016,190 = Asia Minor Coins online #13228 (but with the lion's head to left). Extremely rare, apparently unpublished. Darkly toned and with a very sharp reverse. Nearly extremely fine.

Exactly what this coin is, and where it is from, is quite uncertain. The obverse is almost Celtic in flavour, while the reverse is very similar to that on standard Kyzikene silver fractions, albeit of rougher or ruder style. Whether this coin was issued by a town or a community or a specific population group cannot be ascertained at present.
