CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 240-228 BC. Didrachm or nomos (Silver, 21.5 mm, 6.59 g, 9 h), struck under the magistrate Daimachos. ΔAIMAXOΣ Nude ephebe, holding lighted torch in his right hand and reins in his left, riding horse galloping to right; behind, monogram. Rev. ΤΑΡΑΣ Phalanthos, nude, riding dolphin to left, holding a trident with his right hand and kantharos in his upraised left; to right, monogram. HN III 1053. Vlasto 938-939. A lustrous and sharp example, struck in good silver. Extremely fine.

ΞΕ-ΝΟΚΡΑ/Τ-ΗΣ Armored cavalryman, riding horse moving to left, raising his right hand in salute and turning his bearded and laureate head to face the viewer; in upper field to right, monogram and pileus. Rev. ΤΑΡΑΣ Phalanthos, nude, riding dolphin to left, his body turned slightly back to right, holding a trident over his right shoulder in his right hand and holding his drapery in his upraised left; to right, monogram of ΣΩ; below, waves and cuttlefish. HN III 1058. SNG ANS 1258. Vlasto 957. Lustrous. Obverse struck from a slightly worn die, otherwise, virtually as struck.

HPAKΛEIΩN Herakles grappling with the Nemean lion; to left, at Herakles' feet, bow and club; between Herakles's legs, Φ. HN III 1372. SNG ANS 52 (same dies). Work 17. Scarce type. Good fine.
