MACEDON. Pella. Circa 187-168/7 BC. (Bronze, 21 mm, 5.46 g, 12 h). Helmeted and draped bust of Athena to right; in the lower right field, E. Rev. ΠΕΛΛΗΣ Nike driving biga to right; below, grain ear to right. HGC 3, 612, SNG ANS 571 and SNG Copenhagen 256 var (all without E on the obverse). A fine example, and very unusual with the E on the obverse. Very fine.



The obverse of this coin is copied from the New Style tetradrachms of Athens.

MACEDON. Phagres. Circa 400-350 BC. Chalkous (Bronze, 10.5 mm, 1.39 g, 6 h). Laureate head of Apollo to right. Rev. ΦA/ΓP Forepart of a lion to right. HGC 3.1 -. Liampi, Phagres 5 (O5/R-). An extremely rare coin from an extremely rare northern Greek mint. Some uncleaned deposits and cleaning marks, otherwise, good very fine.

MACEDON. Skione. Circa 490-480 BC. Tetrobol (Silver, 16 mm, 2.34 g). ΣKIONAION (retrograde) Forepart of a roaring lion to right, head turned backwards. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square. Bloesch, Löwen 3–7. HGC 3.1, 685. SNG ANS 719 (as Scithae). Very rare early tetrobol of Skione, priviously attributed to Scithae. A few uncleaned deposits, and slightly porous, otherwise, nearly very fine.
