LUCANIA. Metapontum. Circa 400-340 BC. Didrachm or nomos (Silver, plated, 20 mm, 7.22 g, 5 h). Head of Demeter to right. Rev. ΜΕTAΠO Ear of barley; to right, vine branch with grape cluster. Cf. Noe 390-419 for the obverse and 471 for the reverse. An attractive example of a contemporary plated didrachm, of excellent style and workmanship. Very fine.

LUCANIA. Metapontum. Circa 400-340 BC. Didrachm or nomos (Silver, 21 mm, 7.85 g, 4 h). Bearded head of Leukippos to right, wearing Corinthian helmet; behind, bunch of grapes. Rev. ΜΕ Barley ear with leaf to right. HN III 1553. Johnston Class A 4.3 (this coin). SNG Ashmolean 738 (same dies). Nicely toned and of particularly fine style. Possibly overstruck on a "pegasos", otherwise, about extremely fine.

LUCANIA. Metapontum. Circa 340-330 BC. Nomos or Didrachm (Silver, 20 mm, 7.80 g, 2 h). Head of Demeter to right, wearing barley wreath, triple-pendant earring and a simple necklace, and with a light veil at the back of her head. Rev. ΜΕΤΑ Ear of barley with leaf to right; to left, above leaf, kantharos; below, ΦI. BMC 125 (same dies). HN III 1568. Johnston Class A, 8.1 (same dies). Elegant, clear and beautifully toned; a choice example for this rare die combination. Good very fine.
