PONTOS. Uncertain, but possibly Amisos. Time of Mithradates VI, Circa 130-100 BC. (Bronze, 27 mm, 24.93 g, 4 h). Male head to right, wearing bashlyk and bearing three countermarks: on head, Macedonian helmet within a circular incuse; behind neck, thunderbolt within a rectangular incuse; on neck, facing gorgoneion within a circular incuse. Rev. Star of eight rays; two monograms and bow on the fields. HGC 7, 310. SNG Black Sea 972-5. SNG Stancomb 648. Attractive reddish-brown surfaces, and with a bold portrait. Very fine.
