KINGS OF MACEDON. Demetrios I Poliorketes, 306-283 BC. (Bronze, 18 mm, 4.44 g, 12 h), uncertain mint in Caria, c. 290-286. Laureate head of Zeus to right. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΔΗΜΗΤΡΙΟΥ Athena Promachos standing right, hurling lance; to right, labrys. Newell 166 var (our piece apparently lacks the monogram of AP in the left field). Corroded reverse surfaces, otherwise, good very fine.

KINGS OF MACEDON. Perseus, 179-168 BC. Drachm (Silver, 14.5 mm, 2.34 g, 4 h), Pseudo-Rhodian type, struck for the mercenaries of Perseus during the third Macedonian war, Ameinion, 171-168. Head of Helios facing, turned slightly to the right. Rev. ΑΜΕΙΝΙΩN Rose with bud to right; to left, bunch of grapes. Ashton, A Series of Pseudo-Rhodian Drachms from Mainland Greece, NC 1988, 14. A pleasant, nicely toned coin; very rare and of great historical importance. About extremely fine.

THESSALY. Ainianes. Circa 360s-350s BC. Hemidrachm (Silver, 16 mm, 2.73 g, 11 h), Hypata. Laureate and bearded head of Zeus to left. Rev. AINIAN-ΩN The hero Phemios, nude but for a belt holding a short sword in a scabbard and a chlamys draped over his shoulders and his left arm, standing left, facing front with his head turned to right, hurling a javelin with his right hand and holding his petasos, as if it were a small shield, with his left; on the ground line between his feet, sideways Φ. BCD I 1013. BCD II 26. Traité IV, 452, pl. CCLXXXVII, 15. Rare and struck fine style dies. Very fine.
