Rev. ΗΡΑΚΛΕΟΥΣ / ΣΩΤΗΡΟΣ / ΘΑΣΙΩΝ Herakles standing left, nude but for lion's skin over his shoulder and left arm; resting right hand on club; to left, Μ. Lanz 963-965. Göbl OTA pl. 46 Class II. Toned. Very fine.

ISLANDS OFF THRACE, Thasos, or a very early Celtic imitation. Circa 148-90/80 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 32 mm, 16.88 g, 10 h), a coin of very good style but with some anomalies. Head of young Dionysos to right, wearing ivy wreath. Rev. ΗΡΑΚΛΕΟΥΣ / ΣΩΤΗΡΟΣ / ΘΑΣΙΩΝ Herakles standing left, nude but for lion's skin over his shoulder and left arm; resting right hand on club; to left, Μ. Le Rider 52. Cf. SNG Copenhagen 1042. Boldly struck and very attractively toned. Test cut on the reverse and pierced twice, probably to be used as jewelry, otherwise, extremely fine.

Head of the young Dionysos to right, wearing ivy wreath. Rev. Garbled inscription Celticized Herakles standing left, nude but for lion's skin over his shoulder and left arm, and resting his right hand on club; inner left, H; inscription in the form of parallel rows of pellets. Lanz 983ff. Göbl OTA pl. 46 Class V. Attractively toned and well-centered. Good extremely fine.
