Andreas, Strategos, circa 550-650. Seal (Lead, 21 mm, 8.81 g, 12 h). Rider on horse, advancing to right, wearing hat and mantle; holding scroll in his right hand; star in upper left field. Rev. ANDRE(OY) in cruciform monogram [..]P-A [Τ] Η ΓS across the fields. See Zacos I 1375 for type, cf. Triton XI, (2008) 1117. Particularly artistic early byzantine seal with an unusual depiction. Good very fine.

The resemblance of this seal with the Zacos I 1375 of the Cubicularios Andreas, can lead us to the assumption that both seals are from the same person. If this is correct, then the seal in the present auction should be a little later than the one in Triton, after Andreas was promoted from Cubicularios to General.
