Italy, Rome. Leo X (Giovanni de’ Medici). 1513-1521. Quarto di ducato (Silver, 31mm, 9.84 g 8), dies engraved by Piermaria Sebaldi da Pescia, sometimes known as Tagliacarne, and Vittorio Camellio, undated but late 1513. LEO.DECIMVS.PONT.MAXIMVS. Bare-headed and draped bust of Leo X to left, wearing ornamented robes. Rev. PACEM MEAM DO.VOBIS Christ, nimbate and robed, standing right and preaching to 11 apostles kneeling left before him; in exergue, .ROMA. above the symbol of the Fugger Bank. Berman 636. CNI XV, p. 355, 49 var. Muntoni 17. Extremely rare, especially with this reverse legend variety. Nicely toned and with a fine portrait. Good very fine.

This extremely rare piece was struck to commemorate the submission of the schismatic cardinals Caravajal and Sanseverino at the Fifth Lateran Council in 1513.
