EASTERN CELTS. Imitations of Philip II of Macedon, 2nd-1st centuries BC. Drachm (Silver, 13 mm, 2.35 g, 12 h), 'Kugelwange' type. Stylized laureate head of Zeus to right. Rev. Stylized horse prancing left; above, four-spoked wheel. Lanz 458-9. OTA 188/2-3. Well struck and attractive. Extremely fine.

CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 325-280 BC. Diobol (Silver, 14 mm, 1.05 g, 12 h). Head of Athena to left, wearing crested Attic helmet. Rev. TAP[...] Herakles leaning to right, lifting and strangling the Nemean lion grasped in a choke hold; between legs, E. Diobols, Type -. HN III 976. Cf. Vlasto 1369. Rare, and apparently unpublished in standard references. Good very fine.

LUCANIA. Metapontion. Punic occupation, circa 215-207 BC. 1/2 Shekel (Silver, 20,5 mm, 3.77 g, 10 h). Head of Athena to right, wearing crested Corinthian helmet. Rev. META barley grain with five kernels and leaf to right; on leaf, owl with spread wings perched right. HN III 1634. Robinson p.50, no. 3 and pl. VI.6. SNG ANS 550. Excellent metal and lightly toned. Extremely fine.

LUCANIA. Thourioi. Circa 325-300 BC. Diobol (Silver, 12 mm, 1.21 g, 11 h). Head of Athena to right, wearing crested Attic helmet the bowl of which is decorated with Skylla holding trident. Rev. [ΘΥΡΙΩΝ] Bull butting right; in exergue, fish right. HN III 1918. SNG ANS -. Toned. Very fine.

LUCANIA. Velia. Circa 440/35-400 BC. Didrachm or nomos (Silver, 20 mm, 7.53 g, 4 h). Head of Athena to left, wearing Attic helmet decorated with wreath. Rev. ΥΕ-ΛΗΤ-ΕΩ-Ν Lion pulling down stag to right. HGC 1, 1304. HN Italy 1270. Williams Period III, 167 (O107/R127). SNG ANS 1256 (these dies). KAΛ-I graffito on reverse. Struck from worn dies, otherwise, very fine.

Struck from slightly worn dies, otherwise, very fine.

BRUTTIUM. Hyporon. Circa 300 BC. (Bronze, 19 mm, 4.51 g, 12 h). Laureate head of Apollo to right. Rev. [Υ-Π-Ο-Ρ] Tripod with three ring handles and legs ending in lion's paws; between legs, M-Y. HGC 1, 1413. HN Italy 2269. Extremely rare. Green patina. Very fine.

BRUTTIUM. Hyporon. Circa 300 BC. (Bronze, 20 mm, 4.46 g, 6 h). Laureate head of Apollo to right. Rev. Y - Ρ / Π - Ω Tripod; cross field, M-Y. Cf. HGC 2, 1413 (arrangement of reverse legend). Cf. HN III 2269 (arrangement of reverse legend). Extremely rare city missing in most major public collections and probably unique with this arrangement of the reverse legend. Very fine.

SICILY. Akragas. Circa 465/4-446 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 16.85 g, 9 h). AKRAC-ANTOΣ Eagle with folded wings standing left. Rev. AKRAC - ANTOΣ Crab. SNG Copenhagen 42 (same obverse die). Cf. Westermark Period II, Group I, 313/312 (O3/R6; unrecorded die combination). Minor porosity and bruise on eagle's wing, otherwise, good very fine.

SICILY. Gela. Circa 480/75-475/70 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 17.30 g, 1 h). Charioteer, holding kentron in right hand and reins in left, driving a slow quadriga to right; above, Nike flying right to crown the horses. Rev. C-Ε-Λ-ΑΣ Forepart of man-headed bull to right. Charioteer, holding reins in right hand and kentron in left, driving slow quadriga to right; in background, column with Ionic capital. Rev. CΕΛΑΣ Forepart of man-headed bull right. SICILY. Gela. Circa 490/85-480/75 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 21,5 mm, 8.19 g, 9 h). Bearded horseman, nude but for a helmet, riding to right, brandishing spear in his upraised right hand. Rev. CΕ-Λ-Α Forepart of man-headed bull to right. Jenkins, Gela Group Ic, 70 (O22/R32). Pozzi 433 (same dies). Good fine.

SICILY. Katane. Circa 450-415/3 BC. Hemilitron (Silver, 10.5 mm, 0.37 g, 5 h). Bearded and partially bald head of Silenos to right. Rev. K-A (retrograde) Winged thunderbolt. Apparently unpublished. Seemingly unique, and with a superbly engraved head of Silenos. Some surface marks. Edge broken 4-6h by an elderly dealer on the viewing of Nomos 17, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.

SICILY. Leontinoi. Circa 476-466 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 20 mm, 7.98 g, 11 h). Nude youth on horse walking to right. Rev. ΛΕΟΝΤΙΝ-Ο-Ν Head of roaring lion right; around, four barley grains. Boehringer, Münzgeschichte 12 (same dies). SNG ANS 210 (same reverse die). Unusual die impression on the obverse. Pit on edge on the reverse, otherwise, good fine.

SICILY. Segesta. Circa 475/70-455/50 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 21 mm, 8.32 g, 10 h). Hound, the river-god Krimisos, standing to right. Rev. ΣΑΤΕΣΖΑΖΙΒ (sic) Head of the nymph Aigeste to right, her hair bound with a taenia. De Nanteuil 307 (same dies). Hurter 14b (V4/R12; this coin). SNG Leake 1138 (same dies). Old collection toning. SICILY. Syracuse. Second Democracy, 466-405 BC. Tetras (Bronze, 16,5 mm, 3.35 g, 7 h), circa 415-410. ΣVPA Head of Arethusa to right, hair tied in knot at top of head. Rev. Octopus; around, three pellets. Calciati 1. HGC 2, 1428. Olive-green patina. Good fine.

CARTHAGE. Carthage. Circa 290-270 BC. Stater (Electrum, 19 mm, 7.47 g, 12 h). Head of Tanit to left, wearing grain wreath, triple pendant earring and necklace with pendants. Rev. Horse standing to right. Jenkins & Lewis Group VI, 307-17. MAA 13. Light scratch on the reverse, otherwise, good very fine.

CARTHAGE. Carthage. Circa 290-270 BC. Stater (Electrum, 18,5 mm, 7.40 g, 12 h). Head of Tanit to left, wearing grain wreath, pendant earring and necklace with ten pendants. Rev. Horse standing to right; pellet on ground line. Jenkins & Lewis Group VI, 318-20. MAA 13. Well centered. Hairline flan crack, otherwise, good very fine.

SKYTHIA. Geto-Dacians. Koson, mid 1st century BC. Stater (Gold, 19 mm, 8.76 g, 12 h). ΚΟΣΩΝ Α Roman consul walking left, accompanied on either side by a lictor; to left, monogram of BR. Rev. Eagle standing left on scepter, holding wreath in its talons; to lower left, pellet. Hourmouziadis dies A/a. Iliescu 1. RPC I 1701A. Lustrous and sharp. Extremely fine.

THRACE. Abdera. Circa 415/3-395 BC. Tetrobol (Silver, 14 mm, 2.91 g, 3 h), struck under the magistrate Anachidikos. Griffin springing left. Rev. ANA-ΞΙ-ΔΙ-ΚΟΣ Goat's head to left within linear square within incuse square. BMC 39 (same dies). May 212 (A172/P178). Lightly toned. Very fine.

THRACE. Chersonesos. Circa 386-338 BC. Hemidrachm (Silver, 14 mm, 2.26 g, 11 h). Forepart of a lion to right, his head turned back to left. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square; in one of the squares, pellet; in the opposite square, pellet and monogram of AΓ. McClean 4060. SNG von Post 76. Minor porosity along the periphery, otherwise, good very fine.

THRACE. Mesembria. Circa 4th Century BC. Diobol (Silver, 11 mm, 1.07 g, 6 h). Facing crested Corinthian helmet. Rev. META within radiate wheel of four spokes. HGC 3.2, 1560. Karayotov I 37-94. SNG BM Black Sea 268-271. Nicely centered on a full flan and attractively toned. Good very fine.

ISLANDS OFF THRACE, Thasos. Circa 412-404 BC. Diobol (Silver, 15 mm, 1.10 g, 3 h). Janiform head of Silenos, each bearded, bald-headed and with an animal ear. Rev. Θ-Α-Σ-Ι Two volute kraters shown vertically in a tête-bêche position; all within an incuse square. HGC 6, 348. Le Rider, Thasiennes 25. SNG Copenhagen 1027. Toned. Light porosity, otherwise, good very fine.

KINGS OF THRACE. Teres II, circa 356-342 BC. (Bronze, 21 mm, 15.42 g, 6 h). T/EP/ΩH (RETROGRADE) Bipennis (double-axe). Rev. Five bunches of grapes on vine all within linear frame; to right, kantharos. HGC 3.2, 1712. Topalov 107. Topalov, Odrysian 28.7 (Teres III). Green patina. Very fine.

KINGS OF THRACE. Seuthes III, circa 323-316 BC. (Bronze, 21 mm, 5.96 g, 3 h), Seuthopolis. Laureate and bearded head of Seuthes III to right. Rev. ΣΕΥΘΟΥ Warrior on horse rearing right; below, wreath. Dimitrov Type 7, 1036. Peykov B3810. A little rough, otherwise, very fine.

KINGS OF THRACE. Lysimachos, 305-282/1 BC. (Bronze, 19 mm, 2.49 g, 11 h), Contemporary imitation. Head of Athena to right, wearing crested Attic helmet. Rev. B[A]ΣIΛE[ΩΣ ΛYΣIMA]XOY Lion leaping to right; countermark: river-god Hebros reclining left, Δ in circle monogram below. Cf. HGC 3, 1758. Olive-green patina. Crude as made. Very fine.

KINGS OF THRACE. Adaios, circa 275-225 BC. Hemiobol (Bronze, 18 mm, 5.86 g, 4 h). Head of bearded Herakles to right, wearing lion's skin headdress. Rev. ΑΔΑΙΟΥ Club; below, two monograms. SNG BM Black Sea 329; Youroukova 119. Attractive, and with a dark green patina. Very fine.

KINGS OF THRACE. Adaios, circa 275-225 BC. Hemiobol (Bronze, 15 mm, 2.17 g, 8 h). Head of boar to right. Rev. AΔA Spearhead to right,; below, two monograms. Dimitrov 393–4 var (monograms). KINGS OF THRACE. Rhoemetalces I & Pythodoris, with Augustus, circa 11 BC-AD 12. (Bronze, 29 mm, 13.13 g, 7 h). ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΡΟΙΜΗΤΑΛΚΟΥ Jugate heads of Rhoemetalces and queen Pythodoris to right. Rev. ΚΑΙΣΑΡΟΣ ΣΕΒΑΣΤΟΥ Bare head of Augustus to right. RPC I 1711. Youroukova 204. Dark green patina with heavy earthen deposits. Cleaning scratches, otherwise, very fine.

THRACO-MACEDONIAN TRIBES, Odrysai. 2nd century BC. (Bronze, 20 mm, 4.58 g, 12 h). Head of youthful Herakles to right, wearing lion's skin headdess. Rev. ΟΔΡΥΣΩΝ Bull standing left on club left, head turned slightly facing. HGC 3, 1667 corr. (date). Peykov A5050. Brownish-green patina. Very fine.

MACEDON. Eion. Circa 470-460 BC. Trihemiobol (Silver, 12 mm, 0.94 g). Goose standing to right on decorated base, turning head to left to face a lizard crawling downwards to left; below left, Θ. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square. HGC 3.1, 520. SNG ANS 273-4. Well centered and lightly toned. Good very fine.

MACEDON. Eion. Circa 460-400 BC. Trihemiobol (Silver, 12 mm, 0.91 g). Goose standing to right, head turned back to left; above, lizard to left; to right, Η. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square. HGC 3.1, 521. SNG ANS 291 var. (position of H). Nicely toned. Light scratch on the reverse, otherwise, good very fine.

KINGS OF MACEDON. Philip II, 359-336 BC. 1/5 Tetradrachm (Silver, 13 mm, 2.42 g, 7 h), struck posthumously under Philip III, Amphipolis, circa 323/2-316/5. Diademed head of Apollo to right. Rev. ΦIΛIΠΠOΥ Youth on horseback right; below, monogram of ΠYN and pellet. Le Rider -. Cf. SNG ANS 574 (monogram form, and star instead of pellet). Unpublished control. Very fine.

KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III 'the Great', 336-323 BC. Stater (Gold, 18 mm, 8.55 g, 6 h), struck under Kassander, Amphipolis, circa 307-300. Head of Athena to right, wearing Corinthian helmet adorned with a coiled serpent. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Nike standing left, holding wreath in her right hand and stylis in her left; to left, trident head to left. Price 175. Light scratches and once mounted, otherwise, good very fine.

KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III 'the Great', 336-323 BC. (Bronze, 20 mm, 5.40 g, 9 h), uncertain mint in Western Asia Minor, circa 323-310. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion's skin headdress. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ Bow in bow-case and club; filleted torch below. Price 2800. Dark green patina. Good very fine.

KINGS OF MACEDON. Philip III Arrhidaios, 323-317 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 27 mm, 17.10 g, 7 h), Babylon. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion's skin headdress. Rev. BAΣΙΛΕΩΣ - ΦΙΛΙΠΠOY Zeus seated left on throne, holding eagle standing right in right hand, and long scepter in left; to left, wheel above monogram of ΠY; below throne, monogram. Price P189. Good very fine.

KINGS OF MACEDON. Antigonos II Gonatas, 277/6-239 BC. (Bronze, 16.5 mm, 4.28 g, 12 h), Pella, c. 274/3-239. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion's skin headdress; c/m: owl (?) standing right, head facing, within circular incuse. Rev. B-A / (ANT) Horseman riding right; before, A or monogram (indistinct). HGC 3, 1046. Attractive green patina. Very fine.

THESSALY. Larissa. Circa 356-342 BC. Drachm (Silver, 20 mm, 6.10 g, 6 h). Head of the nymph Larissa facing, turned slightly to the left, wearing ampyx and triple pendant earring. Rev. ΛΑΡΙ Horse with straight legs grazing to left. Lorber, 1992 30 = Lorber, Early O1/R2. Rare. Well struck and attractive details. Good very fine.

THESSALY, Thessalian League. Late 2nd - early 1st century BC. Stater (Silver, 22 mm, 6.31 g, 1 h), struck under the magistrates Italos and Diokles. Head of Zeus to right, wearing oak wreath; behind, ITAΛOY. Rev. ΘEΣΣA-ΛΩN Athena Itonia advancing right, holding spear in right hand and shield on left arm; above, ΔIO-KΛHΣ; across field, N - I. BCD Thessaly II 874.4. HGC 4, 210. Nearly extremely fine.

ILLYRIA. Apollonia. Circa 80/70-48 BC. Drachm (Silver, 18 mm, 3.31 g, 9 h), struck under the magistrates Ariston and Lysenos.
