CELTIC, Northwest Gaul. Carnutes. Circa 2nd century BC. Quarter Stater (Gold, 10 mm, 1.41 g, 9 h). Celticized male head to right; in field to right, uncertain ornaments. Rev. Pegasos flying to left. Castelin 436 (same dies). De la Tour -. D & T -. Extremely rare. Curious and intriguing! Extremely fine.

CELTIC, Southeast Gaul. Allobroges. Circa 75-50 BC. Drachm (Silver, 15 mm, 2.34 g, 9 h), from the Savoy region. Celticized laureate head of Apollo to left. Rev. Horse rushing to left; above, stylized caduceus. Castelin 22-24. De la Tour 2895. Delestrée & Tache 3113. Depeyrot I, 77. Toned, clear and of intriguing style. Good very fine.

CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 380-325 BC. Diobol (Silver, 12.5 mm, 1.27 g, 6 h). Head of Athena to right, wearing Attic helmet adorned with a hippocamp. Rev. Herakles kneeling to right, fighting the Nemean lion. HN III 911. Vlasto 1303-05. A splendid example, toned, very well-centered and of the finest style. Minor marks, otherwise, extremely fine.

LUCANIA. Metapontum. Circa 300-250 BC. Chalkous (Bronze, 18 mm, 4.59 g, 11 h). Facing bust of Athena, wearing wreathed triple-crested helmet, pearl necklace and cloak. Rev. ΜΕΤΑ Ear of barley with leaf to right; to right, cross-torch. HN III 1682. Johnson 46. SNG Copenhagen 1251. Well-struck and sharp, with a fine brown patina. Extremely fine.

LUCANIA. Velia. Circa 465-440 BC. Drachm (Silver, 15 mm, 4.02 g, 12 h). Head of a nymph to right, her hair turned up and bound with a taenia. Rev. ΥΕΛΗ Owl standing right on olive twig. HN III 1265. SNG Ashmolean 1104 (= Williams 110c). Williams 110 (O.75/R.83). Beautifully toned and particularly attractive. Extremely fine.

SICILY. Akragas. 488/485-480/478 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 18 mm, 8.67 g, 6 h). ΑΚRΑ Eagle standing left with closed wings. Rev. Crab within a circular incuse. Westermark 218 (dies O76/R142). Lightly toned and clear. Minor traces of corrosion, otherwise, about extremely fine.

SICILY. Himera. Circa 530-483/2 BC. Drachm (Silver, 21 mm, 5.60 g). Rooster walking to right. Rev. Incuse square with a mill sail pattern of raised and sunken triangles. Kraal, Himera Group II. NAC 59, 2011, 517 (same obverse die). Attractive, bold, lightly toned and very well-struck. Good extremely fine.

SICILY. Himera. Circa 470-450 BC. Litra (Silver, 10 mm, 0.70 g, 6 h). Bearded male head to left, wearing crested helmet with raised ear guard. Rev. Ι-ΜΕR-ΑΙΟΝ Pair of greaves. Rizzo pl. XXI, 14. SNG Ashmolean 1769. SNG Lloyd 1030. Very rare. With an impressive archaic warrior head and an attractive grey tone. Nearly extremely fine.

MACEDON. Eion. Circa 460-400 BC. Trihemiobol (Silver, 13 mm, 0.96 g). Goose standing to right, head turned back to left; above, lizard crawling to left, seen from above; below goose, A. Rev. Incuse square. SNG ANS 285-6. Nicely toned and well-centered on a broad flan, an elegant composition. Nearly extremely fine.

MACEDON. Skione. Circa 480-450 BC. Hemiobol (Silver, 7 mm, 0.34 g). Head of youthful Protesilaos to right. Rev. Galley "Eye"; all within incuse square. HGC 3.1, 677. SNG ANS 710. Well-centered and clear, with a dark patina and earthen highlights as found. About extremely fine.
