CAMPANIA. Phistelia. Circa 325-275 BC. Obol (Silver, 11 mm, 0.63 g, 3 h). Male head facing, turned slightly to right. Rev. Fistluis (Oscan) Dolphin swimming right above barley grain and mussel shell. HN III 613. SNG ANS 567. Nicely toned, clear and attractive. About extremely fine.

LUCANIA. Metapontum. Circa 540-510 BC. Nomos (Silver, 26 mm, 8.17 g, 12 h). META Barley ear of seven grains; border of dots. Rev. Incuse Barley ear of seven grains, as above but incuse; rayed border. HN III 1479. Noe 133. SNG ANS 217 (same dies). An attractive toned example. Slightly ragged edges, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.

LUCANIA. Metapontum. Circa 400-340 BC. Didrachm or nomos (Silver, 20 mm, 7.73 g, 11 h). Bearded head of Leukippos to right, wearing Corinthian helmet; behind, bunch of grapes. Rev. ΜΕ Barley ear with leaf to right. HN III 1553. Jameson 1868, this coin. Johnston A4.2. Of particularly fine style, and nicely toned. A few minor scratches, otherwise, about extremely fine.

LUCANIA. Metapontum. Circa 215-207 BC. Half Shekel (Silver, 20 mm, 3.51 g, 3 h), Punic standard. Head of Athena to right, wearing Corinthian helmet. Rev. ΜΕΤΑ Grain ear with leaf to right; on leaf, owl facing, turned slightly to right and with spread wings. HN III 1634. SNG ANS 550. A lovely toned example. Extremely fine.

BRUTTIUM. Kroton. Circa 480 BC. Stater (Silver, 23 mm, 7.64 g, 12 h). ϘΡΟ Tripod with three ring handles and legs ending in lion's paws; cable border. Rev. Eagle flying right, with spread wings (incuse); rayed border. HN III 2108. Kraay & Hirmer 265 var. SNG ANS 288 var. Traité 2167, pl. LXX, 8. Attractively toned. Surfaces slightly rough, otherwise, extremely fine.

BRUTTIUM. Rhegion. Circa 415/0-387 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 22 mm, 16.82 g, 6 h). Lion’s mask facing. Rev. ΡΗΓΙΝΟΝ Laureate head of Apollo to right, with olive sprig behind. Herzfelder 86. HN III 2496. A splendid piece, struck in high relief and lightly toned. Good extremely fine.

SICILY. Katane. Circa 415/3-404 BC. Litra (Silver, 12 mm, 0.84 g, 6 h). Head of Silenos to left, wearing ivy wreath. Rev. ΚΑΤΑΝΑΙΩΝ Winged thunderbolt between two shields. Boehringer, Kataneische LI 6-7. Rizzo pl. XIV, 18 var. SNG ANS 1266. A remarkably attractive example, nicely toned. Some minor striking weakness, otherwise, extremely fine.

THRACE. Abdera. Circa 473/0-449/8 BC. Hemiobol (Silver, 6 mm, 0.27 g, 12 h). Forepart of a griffin to left, right paw raised. Rev. Scallop shell in incuse square. May, Abdera 199. SNG Copenhagen 319 (same dies). Very rare. With a remarkably finely made griffin, especially given the size. Slightly rough surfaces, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.

THRACE. Abdera. Circa 336-311 BC. Stater (Silver, 23 mm, 10.68 g, 3 h), Hipponax. ΑΒΔ[Η] / ΡΙΤΕΩ[Ν] Griffin lying to left. Rev. [Ε]ΠΙ ΙΠΠΟ - ΝΑΚΤΟΣ Laureate head of Apollo to right; below, scallop shell. CN 126-35 (obverse die 2). May 543. A sharp, toned example. Very slightly off center, otherwise, extremely fine.

THRACE. Maroneia. Circa 386/5-348/7 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 23 mm, 11.23 g, 3 h). ΜΑΡΩ Bridled horse springing to left, with trailing rein. Rev. ΕΠΙ - ΙΚΕΣΙΟ Grape vine with four bunches of grapes; to left, kerykeion; all within shallow incuse square. BMC 25. Schönert-Geiss 425. SNG Lockett 1200. West 92. Fresh, attractive and lightly toned. Extremely fine.

MACEDON. Amphipolis. 369/8 BC. Drachm (Silver, 16 mm, 3.57 g, 2 h). Laureate head of Apollo facing, turned slightly to the right. Rev. ΑΜΦ-IΠΟ-ΛΙΤ-ΕΩΝ Raised square frame surrounding a race torch with flames burning to the left; all within a very shallow incuse square. Lorber 61a (this coin). McClean 3206. Very rare. A splendid, toned coin of very fine style. Very fine.

MACEDON, Chalkidian League. Circa 432-348 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 24 mm, 14.60 g, 6 h), Olynthos mint, c. 380s-370 BC. Laureate head of Apollo to left. Rev. ΧΑΛΚΙΔΕΩΝ Kithara with seven strings. Robinson & Clement –. SNG ANS -. Extremely rare, from an unpublished die pair and with a head of Apollo of great beauty; perfectly centered and of excellent metal quality. Extremely fine.

MACEDON. Neapolis. Circa 500-480 BC. Stater (Silver, 21 mm, 10.07 g). Gorgoneion facing with extended tongue. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square. Dewing 1064. SNG ANS 223. Svoronos pl. 9, 33. Rare. Lightly toned, well-struck in high relief, and with a powerful head of a Gorgon. About extremely fine.

THRACO-MACEDONIAN REGION. Siris. Circa 525-480 BC. Trihemiobol or 1/8 Stater (Silver, 11 mm, 1.13 g). Nude satyr kneeling right between two pellets. Rev. Diagonally divided incuse square. SNG ANS 971-973. Svoronos pl. VIII, 13-17. A really excellent example, toned, well-struck and of an attractive archaic style. Extremely fine.

KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Stater (Gold, 17 mm, 8.57 g, 12 h), Kition, 325-320. Head of Athena right, wearing Corinthian helmet adorned with serpent. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Nike standing left, holding wreath in her right hand and stylis in her left; to left, monogram of ΚΤ. Price 3100. Rare. Obverse lightly struck, otherwise, extremely fine.

KINGS OF MACEDON. Philip V, 221-179 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 8.22 g, 10 h), Amphipolis, 188/7-179. Diademed head of Philip V to right. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟΥ Club with three monograms, ΖΩ above and ΜΕ and ΣΙ below; all within oak wreath; to left, trident upwards. Mamroth, Philip 22. SNG Oxford 3269. Toned, well-centered and struck on a broad flan. Good very fine.

THESSALY. Ainianes. Circa 400-344 BC. Obol (Silver, 12 mm, 0.88 g, 11 h), Hypata. Laureate and bearded head of Zeus to left. Rev. ΑΙΝΙΑΝ Sword in scabbard and spear point, both upwards. BCD 1014 (this coin). Jameson 1080. Traité IV, 453, pl. CCLXXXVII, 16. Very rare. Toned and attractive, one of the finest known examples. Good very fine.

AKARNANIA. Leukas. Circa 405-345. Stater (Silver, 20 mm, 8.59 g, 12 h). Pegasus flying right with curved wing; below, Λ. Rev. Helmeted head of Athena to right; behind, bunch of grapes; above right, Σ. BCD 186. BMC 46. Calciati 38. Lightly toned and very pretty. Reverse very slightly double struck, otherwise, good extremely fine.
