Horseman riding to left; above right, wreath; below, branch. CCCBM I, 107. OTA 226. Toned and boldly struck. Nearly extremely fine.

CELTIC, Carpathian region - Northern Hungary. 2nd century BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 22mm, 13.29 g 6), The ‘Audoleon Type, triskeles variety’. Laureate and bearded head of Zeus to right. Rev. Horseman riding to right; to left, pseudo-legend; below horse’s foreleg to right, Π; below horse, triskeles. CCCBM I 121. OTA 434. A lovely toned example. Extremely fine.

ETRURIA, Arretium. Circa 208-207 BC. AE (Bronze, 17mm, 4.29 g 6). Head of a young male Aethiopian or Nubian to right. Rev. Elephant with a bell hanging from his neck; below, Etruscan Ɔ. HN III 69. SNG ANS 36. An attractive, clear example with a dark green patina. Very fine.

ETRURIA, Populonia. 3rd century BC. 20 Asses (Silver, 20mm, 8.36 g), The ‘Second Metus Group’. Diademed and facing head of Metus, with protruding tongue; below, XX. Rev. Blank. HN III 142. Vecchi Series 52. Bold, well-struck and well-centered. Flan crack and with the usual die break, otherwise, good very fine.

ETRURIA, Populonia. 3rd century BC. 10 Asses (Silver, 16mm, 4.03 g), The ‘Laureate Male Head Group’. Laureate, beardless male head to left; to right, X. Rev. Blank. HN III 168. Vecchi Series 70. Toned. Traces of corrosion on the obverse and many scratches on the reverse, otherwise, very fine.

CAMPANIA, Hyria. Circa 400-395 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 20mm, 7.13 g 9). Head of Athena to left, wearing Attic helmet adorned with a laurel branch and an owl. Rev. YDINAI Man-headed bull walking to left. HN III 539. Rutter 111. Attractively toned. Obverse struck from a slightly worn die, otherwise, good very fine.

CAMPANIA, Phistelia. Circa 405-400 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 19mm, 7.42 g 1). Facing head of a nymph, wearing necklace and with her head turned slightly to the right. Rev. 8ΙϞΤLVϞ Man-headed bull walking to left; in exergue, dolphin to left. HN III 611. Rutter 7. Rare. Attractively toned. Test cut on edge, otherwise, very fine.

LUCANIA. Metapontum. Circa 540-510 BC. Stater (Silver, 27 mm, 8.15 g, 12 h). ΜΕΤ Ear of barley with eight grains. Rev. Ear of barley with eight grains, all incuse. HN III 1459. Noe 3. Toned and clear. Some scratches and marks, and some uncleaned encrustations on the reverse, otherwise. Good very fine.

LUCANIA, Metapontum. Circa 540-510 BC. Drachm or Third Stater (Silver, 17mm, 2.72 g 12). ΜΕΤ Ear of barley with seven grains; around, border of dots. Rev. Ear of barley with seven grains, all incuse; rayed border. HN III 1460. Noe 32. Gray toning. Nearly extremely fine.

LUCANIA, Sybaris. Circa 550-510 BC. Stater (Silver, 30mm, 8.31 g 12). VM Bull standing to left on dotted ground line, head turned back to right; cable border. Rev. Bull standing to right, on dotted ground line; around, border of dots; all incuse. HN III 1729. SNG ANS 828 ff. Nicely toned and sharply struck. Extremely fine.

LUCANIA, Thourioi. Circa 443-400 BC. Stater (Silver, 18mm, 8.03 g 9). Head ofAthena to right, wearing an Attic helmet ornamented with an olive branch. Rev. ΘΟΥΡΙΩΝ Bull butting to right; in exergue, fish to right. HN III 1775. SNG ANS 925. Attractively toned and nicely centered. About extremely fine.

LUCANIA, Velia. Circa 440/35-400 BC. Drachm (Silver, 17mm, 4.01 g 10). Head of a nymph to right, with curly hair confined by a band. Rev. ΥΕΛ[Η] Owl standing right on olive twig. HN III 1272. SNG ANS 1266. Williams 183 . Attractively toned. Slightly rough surfaces and with an ancient test cut at 2’, otherwise, extremely fine.

BRUTTIUM, Rhegion. Circa 415/0-387 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 23mm, 17.27 g 7). Lion’s mask facing. Rev. ΡΗΓΙΝΟΝ Laureate head of Apollo to right, with olive sprig behind. Herzfelder 88 a(this coin). HN III 2496. Toned and in high relief, with an impressive pedigree. Good very fine.

SICILY. Akragas. Circa 465/4-446 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 26 mm, 17.18 g, 4 h). ΑΚΡΑC - ΑΝΤΟΣ (partially retrograde) Eagle standing left with closed wings. Rev. Crab within a shallow circular incuse. SNG ANS 972. Westermark 348.2 (O10/R34) (this coin). Clear and lightly toned. Die break on the reverse, otherwise. Good very fine.

SICILY. Gela. Circa 450-440 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 17.23 g, 9 h). Quadriga driven slowly to right by a bearded charioteer; above, Nike flying right to crown the horses; in exergue, palmette with tendrils. Rev. ϹΕΛΑΣ Forepart of man-headed bull to right. Dewing 603 var. Jenkins 342. Toned and clear. Struck from slightly worn dies, otherwise, good very fine.

SICILY, Gela. Circa 425-420 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 23mm, 17.36 g 7). Nike driving quadriga walking to left; above, laurel wreath. Rev. ϹΕΛΑΣ Forepart of man-headed bull to right; below, heron standing right. Jenkins 459. Toned, clear and well-centered. Very fine.

SICILY. Leontini. Circa 450-440 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 22 mm, 17.13 g, 2 h). Laureate head of Apollo to right. Rev. VΕΟ-ΝΤ-Ι-ΝΟ-Ν Lion’s head with open jaws to right; around, four barley grains. Boehringer 37. SNG ANS 222. Nicely toned and clear. Nearly extremely fine.

SICILY, Leontini. Circa 440-430 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 24mm, 17.36 g 11). Laureate head of Apollo to left. Rev. VΕΟ-ΝΤ-ΙΝΟΝ Lion’s head with open jaws to left; above, below and to left, barley grain; to right, olive leaf and berry. Boehringer 53. SNG ANS 240. Nicely toned. Slightly ragged flan, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.

SICILY. Messana (as Zankle). Circa 500-493 BC. Drachm (Silver, 21 mm, 6.13 g). DANKLE Dolphin to left within the sickle-shaped harbor of Messana. Rev. Design of raised and sunk squares and triangles; in the center, cockle shell. Gielow 53-57 ff. SNG ANS 299. Attractively toned. Some die rust, otherwise. Good very fine.

SNG ANS 676. A sharp and beautifully toned example. Some striking flatness on the obverse, and traces of deposits on the reverse; otherwise, extremely fine.

SICILY, Syracuse. Agathokles, 317-289 BC. Stater (Silver, 18mm, 6.87 g 5), c. 300. Head of Athena to left, wearing Corinthian helmet. Rev. Pegasus flying to left; below left, triskeles. Calciati 17. SNG ANS 682-685. A splendid, sharply struck, toned example. Extremely fine.

SICILY, Syracuse. Hieronymos, 215-214 BC. 10 litrai (Silver, 21mm, 8.45 g 7). Diademed head of Hieronymos to left. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ - IEPΩNYMOY Winged thunderbolt; above, ΦΙ. De Luynes 1386. Holloway 33. A very attractive, sharply struck, toned coin. Tiny flan crack, otherwise, extremely fine.

CARTHAGE. Carthage. Circa 300 BC. Shekel (Silver, 18 mm, 7.60 g, 12 h). Head of Tanit to left, wearing wreath of grain ears, pendant earring and pearl necklace. Rev. Horse standing right, his head turned back to left; behind, palm tree; to right, star. Gulbenkian 383. Müller 108. SNG Copenhagen 141. A very attractive and toned example. Extremely fine.

THRACE. Ainos. Circa 412/1-410/09 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 22 mm, 16.65 g, 7 h), Head of Hermes to right, wearing close-fitting petasos with knob at the top and beads along the edge. Rev. ΑΙΝ - Ι Goat standing to right; to right, kerykeion; all within incuse square. May 263a (this coin). Attractively toned and of very fine style. Good very fine.

MACEDON. Akanthos. Circa 500-480 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 16.98 g), Lion to left, attacking bull kneeling to right, head lifted and turned back to left; in exergue, flower. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square. Cf. BMFA 516 and SNG ANS 4. Lightly toned and well-struck in high relief. Extremely fine.

KINGS of MACEDON. Philip II, 359-336 BC. Stater (Gold, 16mm, 8.63 g 1), Amphipolis, c. 340-328. Laureate head of Apollo to right. Rev. ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟΥ Biga galloping to right, the driver holds the reins in his left hand and a goad in his right; below right, crescent to right. Le Rider 94. Well-struck and toned. Extremely fine.
