SICILY. Syracuse. Dionysios I, 405-367 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 16.41 g, 4 h), unsigned work of Eukleidas, circa 399-387 BC. Fast quadriga to left, driver holding kentron with his right hand and reins with his left; above, Nike flying to right to crown him; in exergue, horizontal grain ear. Rev. [ΣYPAKOΣI]ΩN Head of Arethusa to left, wearing hair in sphendone, hoop earring and pearl necklace. Fischer-Bossert 87 (O32/R59). HGC 2, 1343. SNG ANS 1379. Toned. Porous surfaces. About very fine.

From a German collection assembled during the second half of the 20th century, acquired from Peus in 1974.
