TROAS. Alexandria Troas. Claudius, 41-54. AE (Bronze, 17.5 mm, 4.34 g, 7 h). TI CLAV AVG Bare head of Claudius to left. Rev. Two veiled togate priests plowing to right, leading two oxen and and performing the sulcus primigenius. RPC I 1660.24 (same dies). SNG BN 1458. SNG Copenhagen 284-5. Blue green patina. Obverse struck off center, and with some roughness, otherwise, very fine.



RPC has adjusted its attribution of the city for this type from Philippi (?) to Alexandria Troas to reflect Burnett and Martin's ‘An early Imperial coinage from Alexandria Troas?’ from the Second International Congress on the History of Money and Numismatics in the Mediterranean World.
