MYSIA. Parium. Trajan, 98-117. (Bronze, 18 mm, 2.74 g, 12 h), before 214. TRAIANVS AVG Laureate head of Trajan to right: c/m capricorn to right within oval punch. Rev. PLOTINA ET MARCIANA AVG Draped bust of Plotina on left and Marciana on right facing one another. RPC III, 1543. SNG France 1468. For c/m: Howgego, Countermarks, 304. Scarce. Very fine.

Marciana was the beloved sister of Trajan and the first sister of an emperor ever to receive the title of Augusta. On this coin she is honoured together with Plotina, Trajan's wife, who according to Sueton, played an important role in Hadrian's succession to the throne.
