ARMENIA, Cilician Armenia. Royal. Levon I, 1198-1219. Tram (Silver, 21.5 mm, 2.97 g, 11 h). Levon I seated facing on throne decorated with lions, holding cross in right hand and lis in left, and with left feet on footstool. Rev. Two lions rampant back-to-back, each with head reverted; between them, patriarchal cross. ACV 282. CCA 125. Good very fine.

Levon I was the first King of Cilician Armenia. He united the baronies to establish a powerful kingdom, and assisted the European Crusaders during the Third Crusade. His coinage reflects his assumption of power, depicting him regally posed seated on lion throne, and holding both a globus cruciger and a lis.
