LYDIA. Tralles. Octavian, 30 BC. (Bronze, 17 mm, 3.41 g, 12 h), Menandros Parrhasiou. Bare head of Octavian to right. Rev. ΚΑΙΣΑΡΕΩΝ Clasped hands holding caduceus adorned with ribbons; monograms of ΜΕΝΑΝΔ and ΠΑΡΥ. RPC 2638.5. Extremely rare - only five examples cited in the RPC Online, one additional example on CoinArchives. Nearly very fine.



This coin was struck by Menandros Parrhasiou in honor of Vedius Pollio (died circa 15 BC). Pollio was a friend of Octavian who was infamous for feeding slaves to his lampreys.
