Lot 448

Postumus, Usurper in Gaul, 260-269. Antoninianus (Silver, 22mm, 3.48 g 1), Cologne, 267. IMP C POSTVMVS P F AVG Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust of Postumus to right. Rev. VIRTVTI AVGVSTI Hercules, nude, standing right, his right hand resting on his hip and, with his left, holding a lion's skin and a club, which rests on the ground. AGK (corr.) 114. Cunetio 2441f. Elmer 390. RIC 333. Rare. A very nice example struck on a relatively heavy flan that is in particularly good silver; with a particularly elegant representation of Hercules. Reverse struck slightly off center and with a minor flan crack at 7 o’clock, otherwise, good very fine.
