Lot 1236

MYSIA. Kyzikos. Circa 550-450 BC. Hekte (Electrum, 10.5 mm, 2.69 g). Forepart of a hunting dog to left, wearing a collar and with his head turned back to right; to right, tunny swimming upwards. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square. BMFA 1418. SNG Paris 189. Von Fritze I 50. With a powerful, almost noble 'portrait' of hunting dog: perhaps he could be "Egertes = Vigilant", one of the dogs pictured and named on the François Vase. Well-centered, well-struck and nicely toned. Minor flan faults and with a few small scratches on the reverse, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.

From the Collection of Jonathan H. Kagan, ex Leu Numismatics 65, 21 May 1996, 187.
