Leone of 80 Soldi (Silver, 34.5 mm, 10.47 g, 5 h), struck under the doge Alvise II Mocenigo, 1700-1709, Venice, mintmaster Bernardo Gritti , 1705. S✶ M✶ V✶ ALOY✶ MOCENI Alvise II Mocenigo, kneeling to left, grasping long, cross-tipped scepter, and being blessed by St. Mark, seated to right; in the exergue, ✶G·B✶. Rev. Winged lion of St. Mark standing to left among the sea-waves, with his head facing, holding olive branch in his right paw; to left, Dalmatian fortress; in the exergue, denomination flanked by stars. Karamitsos DA.17c (mint error). KM 11. Montenegro 2269. Paolucci 806. Toned and well centered, and with a yery rare mint error: the mintmaster's initials inverted are transposed! No example has appeared in any auction in the past decades. Graded by NGC "VF details / rev. scratched". Cert number: 2909007-011.

Although these coins were struck for circulation in Dalmatia and Albania, they also were used in the Ionian Islands and the Peloponnesos. We know that, both from coin finds as well as from the records preserved in the Venetian archives.
