ΙΟΝΙΚΟΝ ΚΡΑΤΟΣ᛫ 1835᛫ The winged lion of Saint Mark walking to left, holding Book of Gospels surmounted by 7 arrows representing the 7 Ionian islands. Karamitsos I.20. KM 34. ASIA MINOR. Uncertain mint. Circa 5th century BC. Trihemiobol (?) (Silver, 9 mm, 1.06 g, 2 h). Forepart of griffin to right, with open jaws. Rev. Stylized lion’s head facing, with its mane consisting of snake-like appendages. Cf. CNG Electronic Auction 334, 2014, lot 157. Unpublished in the standard references. Slightly granular surfaces, otherwise, about very fine.
