SICILY. Syracuse. Dionysios I, 405-367 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 26 mm, 17.19 g, 6 h), signed by the engravers Eumenes on the obverse and Eukleidas on the reverse, circa 400. Quadriga galloping to left with its male driver, holding the reins in his left hand and a goad in his right, crowned by Nike, flying to right above, with a wreath held in both of her hands; in the exergue, ΕYΜΗΝΟY. Rev. ΣΥΡΑΚΟΣΙΟΝ Head of Arethusa to left, her hair bound tightly around her head, wearing a double-curved earring and a simple pearl necklace; below chin, open diptych inscribed EYKΛ/EIΔA on its two leaves; around head, four dolphins swimming in two opposed pairs. BMFA 402 (same dies). Fischer-Bossert/Tudeer 24 (O9/R16). SNG ANS 259 (same dies). Clear and well-centered. Minor die rust on the obverse and areas of flatness on both sides, otherwise, good very fine.
