SICILY. Gela. Circa 490/85-480/75 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 19 mm, 8.51 g, 10 h). Bearded warrior, nude but for a high bonnet, riding to right on a galloping horse; holding spear in his upraised right hand and the reins in his left. Rev. CΕ - Λ-Α Forepart of the man-headed bull Acheloös to right. BMFA 241 = Warren 227 (same dies). Jenkins, Gela Group Ib, 28.62 (O9/R11, this coin). Kraay & Hirmer 156 (same dies). A pleasingly sharp example, attractively toned. Minor uncleaned deposits and some very slightly roughness, otherwise, extremely fine.
