MACEDON. Akanthos. Circa 478-465 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 29 mm, 17.22 g), c. 470. Lion to right, attacking bull, collapsing to left with head raised and turned back to right; above, Θ to the right of the bull's horn; below bull, exergual line of pellets between two plain lines and with a floral ornament below. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square with granulated surfaces. Desneux 77 (D75/R70). SNG ANS 10. Tselekas, 210 (same dies). Lightly toned, and struck on a broad flan. Slightly doubled obverse, otherwise, about extremely fine.
